David Collins is one of the UK’s most respected investigative reporters. In 2011, he became the youngest journalist in the history of the British Press Awards to win News Reporter of the Year for helping police convict the serial killer Levi Bellfield for the murder of Milly Dowler. He joined The Sunday Times as an investigative reporter in 2015. Initially working as deputy editor of the world-famous Insight investigations unit, he helped to uncover systematic blood doping by Russian track and field athletes; corruption and tax avoidance in football as part of the international Football Leaks investigation; and No10’s cover up of a misfiring Trident nuclear weapon off the coast of North America. He is the winner of Investigation of the Year at the British Journalism Awards for his work on alleged war crimes by the SAS in Afghanistan. In 2022, along with Hannah Al-Othman, he was the winner of Private Eye's prestigious Paul Foot Award for investigative journalism following a series of reports on the murder of a young Kenyan mother called Agnes Wanjiru, tracking down the British soldier who is the main suspect for the murder. Originally from St Helens, in Merseyside, he is the winner of eight national journalism awards. He is currently Northern Editor for the Sunday Times based in Manchester.
