After completing an English degree at Oxford University and working as an actor and arts administrator in London and the USA, Clare Owen married a boat builder and moved to Cornwall. In 2008 she founded a theatre company specialising in improvising the real life stories of audiences around the county, before going on to write and perform her own material with the all women ensemble Riot of the Freelance Mind. She has been published by Mslexia, Storgy, Litro, Fairlight and in the anthology An Outbreak of Peace (Arachne Press). Zed and the Cormorants is her first YA novel.
