I was the sixth born in a Catholic family of 14 children, and grew up on a large farm in Glenwood, Minnesota. After I graduated from high school, I worked as a secretary in St. Paul for a few years before I moved to the West Coast to escape cold weather. I saved notes in a file for more than 50 years to write this book. In the meantime, I earned a BA in English-Writing (equivalent of journalism) and worked as a reporter and editor of an Army newspaper. I won 32 Keith L. Ware journalism awards, including the Thomas Jefferson Award (twice) for being the best newspaper in all four branches of the military--No. 1 paper out of more than 6,000. After I retired, I did some standup comedy at open mics, was in a TV commercial and got paid for writing blogs. I believe I developed a keen sense of humor as a tool to survive difficult times. At age 72, I finally wrote and published my book. It was an emotionally difficult book to write, but it was also very therapeutic. I knew it was now or never. By releasing my childhood trauma into my book, I feel a new sense of peace and freedom, but I mainly wrote this book to help other victims of abuse. I have always enjoyed writing poetry and I plan to write another book of humorous poems called "Character Sketches." I watch behavior traits of various people and then write a funny poem about them. In my spare time, I enjoy bowling and hiking on nature trails. I also enjoy attending live-stage productions and watching movies with a strong Christian theme like "God's Not Dead" (Parts I & II), "Courageous" and "The War Room". I prefer seeing movies about real people who overcame great obstacles to achieve success.
