Originally hailing from New York, Alethea Avery is a globe-trotting writer with a passion for exploration and storytelling in all of its wonderful forms. After graduating with a degree in filmmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Alethea packed her bags and hopped from city to city around the world, working as a freelance fiction writer, journalist, and filmmaker. Alethea spent her summers growing up playing pirates, not princesses, along the rocky shores of Portland, Maine. Discouraged by the lack of stories revolving around female pirates, Alethea decided to write her own. Mixing history with fiction, Madame Calypso (coming soon) is a cautionary tale of romance and revenge, and an ode to the often forgotten and overlooked women who held their own in turbulent waters.
