The Sutherland Family

Thrust into a foreign environment as the cook's hand with a shearing team, after her father passes away, Maysa must fight for survival. She finds herself both loving and being terrified by all the Australian outback has to offer, the country, the wildlife, but mostly the people. She meets the love of her life, but she must fight against an undercurrent of evil just to survive, let alone live happily ever after.

Often, before a storm, there is that moment of eerie silence, stillness, tranquillity. A moment of absolute peace. Everything in nature stands motionless in anticipation. Even the initiated can be drawn into the deception. The moment Jack saw a lone figure on a horse riding toward him on that hot day in early spring was such a moment in time, literally and figuratively. It was the moment before he knew she was a she. The moment before he'd been instantly captured consciously and subconsciously by her beauty. The moment before the physical storm that forced their acquaintance. 

In an odd and serene moment, she wondered how something so bright and actually beautiful, such a vibrant red, a colour synonymous with passion, romance and love, the colour of blood, of life, could also be the colour of so much appalling devastation. Sent south to the Snowy mountains to work on his Cousin Jack's farm, George Sutherland finds himself fighting for a beautiful woman, his job and ultimately his life. He is driven to breaking point as he is made to question his own reality, if he is worthy of the job and ultimately, the family name.
