Scritto nel 1870, il romanzo di Jules Verne, tra i più celebri dello scrittore francese, è stato ripreso nel corso del Novecento da innumerevoli adattamenti televisivi e cinematografici. Pensato come il primo volume di una trilogia, fin da subito il romanzo accese l'immaginazione dei contemporanei, per la straordinaria visione di un sottomarino in grado di esplorare il fondo dei mari. Una nave, difatti, l'"Abraham Lincoln", viene incaricata di catturare un misterioso mostro marino. Nell'equipaggio spiccano il naturalista, professore Aronnax, il servo Conseil e il fiocinatore Ned.

He is accompanied by his valet, Passepartout, and a detective named Fix, who has been assigned by the Reformer's Club to observe his movements. Showing fortitude and endless resourcefulness, Fogg and his companions narrowly escape from barbarians, hostile mobs, and schemers during their journey.
