Tilley galloped into Judge Joe Blackwell's yard, trying not to think of what she had just witnessed. Jasper had rushed home after he had asked her to marry him yesterday, to a woman who had to be five months pregnant, his Ann. Why didn't he just tell her? But then she told him she didn't care; it was not as if she didn't have enough shit going on in her life at the moment.

The trio of Freya, Leah, and Zeal are living in the Swenson Castle on the North Sea in Norway. Each day there are new unique challenges, for they are led by orders from Freya. Coming in from all over the world are the calls for help, some right in their own backyards. The family is constantly growing, as the need to find homes for so many abused children is answered with joy by the residents of Swenson Castle. Leah tries to adjust to the life, so different from her home in Virginia, as her past life calls, tugging at her heart: "Be careful what you ask for."

Tilley and Faith Hall are living with their grandmother Agnes Grasdon on the plantation they now owned near Smith Mountain in Bedford County, Virginia. Agnes had obtained the massive mansion and over a thousand acres for back taxes, giving her granddaughters the love and security they had never had in their young lives. As Marcie Hall is dying, she is taking a secret to her grave: She had signed over guardianship of her twins to Judge Joe and Beth Blackwell, the last people Agnes Grasdon would want her grandchildren raised by. Once again, Marcie's bad decision will cost her daughters.

The train ride was going to be the first trip the twins had ever taken. The family business is expanding, and it adds new challenges to the already hectic Swenson castle. All the while everyone is aware to be "careful what they ask for".

Zeal and Freya had chosen her because in her prayers she had unknowingly asked for this: a painless end to her cancer diagnosis.
