  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button & 101 Dalmatians
    Nov 12 2024

In this week’s episode, we explore two spectacular shows currently gracing the West End: the magical The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the mischievous 101 Dalmatians. Plus, Natalie goes backstage at the Mayflower Theatre for an exclusive chat with cast member Charles Brunton.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, described as “the best British musical in decades” (WhatsOnStage), has captivated audiences with its epic, intimate storytelling. Based on the iconic short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the show is reimagined in a Cornish fishing village by the award-winning team Jethro Compton and Darren Clark. The musical is brought to life by a 13-strong cast of actor-musicians playing 30 instruments, performing “miracles of dexterity on stage” (The Times). With a score that is “tremendous” (Daily Mail) and a story that is both cinematic and heart-wrenchingly magical, the show follows Benjamin Button, who is born old and grows younger each day. As he searches for a place to belong, the tale explores the complexities of life and love that defy all odds. Now playing at London’s Ambassadors Theatre, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is truly a “sure-fire West End hit” (The i).

    101 Dalmatians

Get ready for a fur-filled adventure with 101 Dalmatians, a dazzling new musical adaptation of Dodie Smith’s classic canine caper. In this spectacular show, fashionista Cruella de Vil plots to steal all the Dalmatian puppies in town to create her fabulous new fur coat, but Pongo, Perdita, and their adorable litter of pups won’t let her get away with it. This musical is brought to life with spectacular puppetry, show-stopping choreography, and witty songs. Written by Douglas Hodge (music and lyrics) and Johnny McKnight (book), with a stage adaptation by Zinnie Harris, this charming and thrilling show will capture the hearts of audiences of all ages.

    Interview with Charles Brunton

In this episode, Natalie goes backstage at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton for an exclusive interview with cast member Charles Brunton, who plays Casper in 101 Dalmatians. Charles shares insights into his role, the magic of puppetry, and what it’s like to be part of this exciting new production.

Top for ticket tips

This is one of my go-to podcasts, one that I will listen to on day of release for up to the minute reviews of current West End (and beyond) shows and news of what’s coming soon so that I can plan my next visit.

Great hosts with a wealth of theatre knowledge and experience give honest and fair reviews of the shows they’ve been to see, and you may learn a little about teas as well 😄
