DOMINIC BRUNT IN CONVERSATION.

We’re back with another cracking episode of the Carlisle Cult Cinema Club Presents: In this installment, PD has the pleasure of sitting down with a true icon of British television, the one and only Dominic Brunt, known to many as Paddy Kirk or Paddy The Vet from Emmerdale, a role he has embodied for the last 27 years. But today, we’re diving deep into a different side of Dominic—his passion for directing.

While most fans know him for his work on the soap, what you might not realize is that Dominic has a massive love for horror films. Over the years, he has directed five Cracking projects, starting with the slow-burn zombie apocalypse film, Before Dawn (2013), which he starred in alongside his talented wife, Joanne Mitchell. From there, he took a darker turn with the intense loan shark revenge tale, Bait (2014), and continued to explore the bizarre with the wonderfully chaotic Attack of the Adult Babies (2017). After a five-year hiatus, he returned with the gory and humorous werewolf film, Wolf Manor (2022), featuring James Fleet, and just last year, he unleashed the haunting psychological horror, Evie (2023).

In addition to his directing journey, we’ll also share a light-hearted chat about VHS and some of his favorite tapes from his collection, plus a little discussion about his time on Emmerdale. So, tune in for an entertaining conversation filled with stories and insights, as we get to know the man behind Britain’s beloved soap vet, the multi-talented Actor, Writer, and Director, Dominic Brunt!

DAVID QUANTICK

THE HYENA KICKSTARTER SPECIAL.

In this episode of the Carlisle Cult Cinema Club Presents, PD sits down with Emmy Award-winning writer David Quantick to discuss the Kickstarter for his latest novel, THE HYENA. Join us as David shares insights into the intriguing world of Deborah Parkinson!

THE HYENA is the story of an artist called Deborah Parkinson. She was a surrealist who grew up in pre-WW2 Plymouth where her dad ran a pub, then she ran away to Paris where she met Dali and Picasso and Frida Kahlo, and fell in love with a mysterious artist called Marius.

When war came, she followed Max Ernst and Leonora Carrington to Mexico, where she hung out with Kahlo again, and met Leon Trotsky. Implicated in Trotsky’s murder, she fled back to Plymouth to deal with the death of her family in the Blitz.

In her later years, she settled down with a family, resolved some issues in New York, and nearly died in an old people’s home. Nearly.
