  • Summary

  • Hello! I'm Gail Nobles! Welcome to the Buzzly Podcast. Today I want to talk to you about Dick Clark's Soul Unlimited. Now, Dick Clark already had a music dance show called the American Bandstand. It aired regularly in various versions from 1952 to 1989. In 1952, the show was hosted by Philadelphia radio DJ Bob Horn. Dick Clark replaced Horn as host in 1956 just before the show was renamed American Bandstand. It was first called Bandstand.

There was another television show that aired called Soul Train from 1971 to 2006 the series was created by Don Cornelius who also served as its first and longest serving host and executive producer the show primarily featured performances by R&B soul and hip-hop artist did Clark.

Did Clark decided to bring his own version of Soul Train on the air and called it Soul Unlimited. He wanted a black dance show of his own like Soul Train. According to the DailyMail report (dailymail.co.uk), Clark power move outraged black political leaders. Dick Clark’s show Soul Unlimited didn't last very long. It was short-lived all-black version of American Bandstand and answer to Soul Train.

I'm Gail Nobles! I'll be back with more of today's topic Soul Unlimited. Stay tuned!
