A few useful nuggets
Nice book. Many of the ideas are not new but they're told in a new, useful and practical context that improves the understanding of the social media phenomenon and helps one to reconcile their role in it. An intriguing point is how Socrates thought that the technology of writing would reduce human information retention ability and it did. Only we found that not only is it unnecessary to memorize a whole encyclopedia, the benefits of writing (which include an exponential increase in our ability to transmit information over time without the need for a human brain as a vessel) have enabled us to focus on processing information for actionable insights rather than just memorizing it. Recommended read if you have 2 hours to spare....

informative
enjoyable and informative, definitely inspired me to try altering my social media usage. I think some of the episodes weren't particularly useful to me as I'm not a teen or a parent. I also found it ironic that, in the episode where they were talking about not blindly trusting online sources, they presented a view of PewDiePie which seemed to not have taken into account any of his videos before or after, nor the YouTube community's perspective, only print media.

Refreshing
I liked how it wasn't demonizing screen time but rather pointed out how it can affect us both in a bad as well as in a good way. It was refreshing. I really liked the part about fake news.

Useful for parents and teenagers
Only aimed at teenagers and children. I was hoping for a more balanced insight covering all age ranges. While useful for me as a father, not much scope was covered for adults caught up in the digital world and online presence. Items like identity theft, online scams and other online issues that the adult world has to contend with were not covered at all. Perhaps the title should have been - "the online world with your teenager or child", or similar

Disappointed
As a mature woman struggling with screen time, I was extremely disappointed by this content which we've heard in the medias time and time again. Nothing new here. The focus is mainly on teenagers which is another cliché. It would have been such a better idea to look at those of us who didn't grow up with the internet and who are struggling. My 18-year-old is able to master his screen time, he's not the one who needs help. Thankfully, Cal Newport's new book, Digital Minimalism, has just come out. He tackles the real issues with his usual rigorous approach. Please Audible, don't waste our time with superficial work that looks like an in-depth study!
