15歳の私は、血を流して倒れていたところを介抱したことをきっかけに、中年男性のＮと出逢った。母親への軽い反抗心もあって、私は島の一軒家だという彼の家に着いて行く。彼は家でもネクタイとスーツを好んで着る人だった。その髪は、強風の浜辺でも、ベッドでも全く乱れることがない。Nの家にいると感じる奇妙な視線は、病気で瞼を切断されたハムスターのものだった。
　一度もしゃべったところを見た事のない渡し船を操縦する若い男、町の高級レストランでＮが昔、プロポーズしたという、バイオリンが上手でまぶたがきれいだった女性。Ｎは私のまぶたも同じように美しく完璧だといい、私に弾けないバイオリンを弾かせ、その女性が戻ってきたかのような錯覚を愉しむのだった。そうして、Nを知るにつれ、私のすべてが彼に委ねられていく・・・。
