Summary

The masterpiece that started Terry Goodkind's New York Times bestselling epic Sword of Truth

In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher's forest sanctuary seeking help...and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.

In a dark age it takes courage to live, and more than mere courage to challenge those who hold dominion, Richard and Kahlan must take up that challenge or become the next victims. Beyond awaits a bewitching land where even the best of their hearts could betray them. Yet, Richard fears nothing so much as what secrets his sword might reveal about his own soul. Falling in love would destroy them - for reasons Richard can't imagine and Kahlan dare not say.

In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword - to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed...or that their time has run out.

Wizard's First Rule is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.

fantastic story

Loved to listen to this story.
The narrator has a saltie voice and gives the story the necessary darkness.

Some rather odd narration

Where does Wizard's First Rule rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'm still getting used to Audiobooks and as I really enjoyed reading the books thought I'd give it a go.

As another reviewer has said, I think this narrator would be a better choice for children's books - I laughed out loud (in the middle of a field with the dog) when he first did his 'Shah' voice, and his Zed one sometimes comes over a bit Prince Charles....but in general it's OK, and the excitement of the story means I'll keep listening.

Maybe bias as grew up with books!

one of my all time favourite books, and loved hearing it read, once use to the narrator.

Has a good story line, characters to love and hate.

There is some very graphic parts in the book, that I personally skip over as hearing it in spoken word is more real and scary

An Incredible Beginning

The story had me gripped from beginning to end. This is my second listen of the series of books. The series called the children of Dhara follows on from this series so don’t miss out on them either.

Brilliant!

One of my favourite stories, fantastically narrated!

My only niggle was that Scarlet sounded like a gangster - I thought she’d sound regal! 🤣
