Summary

Justice isn't always black and white.

Criminal defense attorney Talon Winter takes on the case of her life—and her client's.

Michael Jameson is a successful, 40-something, African American husband and father. And he's just been charged with a 25-year-old cold case murder, a gang-related drug deal gone horribly wrong. Talon agrees to take the case, but the one question she needs answered is the one question Michael refuses to answer: Did he do it?

Michael insists it doesn't matter. He's not the same person he was 25 years ago. He's built a new life in the intervening years, and nothing that happens now will bring the victim back. Instead, he poses a far more provocative question: Would the legal system reach back that far to take away everything built up by a successful White man?

Talon must battle the system itself—as well as a condescending prosecutor, reluctant witnesses, and even her own client—to achieve that most elusive of goals: Justice.

Great!

This is the first Stephen Penner book I have listened to and I certainly hope it won't be the last. The story is well paced and interesting throughout. The characters are well developed and well voiced by Talon David who is a very good narrator. I would recommend highly to anyone who enjoys a good legal thriller.
I was kindly given a copy of this book by the narrator and leave this honest and voluntary review.

past

I enjoyed the narration of Talon David, who brought out the characters, plot and intrigue. Making this a great listen.

Talon Winter used to work for a high-profile law firm until they asked her to do something unethical , for exchange of partnership. Leaving she goes out on her own. A new client comes in, an African American man named Michael Jameson. Michael had a robbery in his home and the police find a gun which they believe will solve a 25-year cold case.

Great characters and plot
