Summary

USA Today best-selling author Beverly Jenkins continues her captivating Women Who Dare series with a female rancher who forges her own path in the wake of the Civil War....

Banished by her grandfather at the age of 18, Spring Lee has survived scandal to claim her own little slice of Paradise, Wyoming. She’s proud of working her ranch alone and unwilling to share it with a stranger - especially one like Garrett McCray, who makes her second-guess her resolve to avoid men.

Garrett escaped slavery years ago and is now a reporter in Washington. He’s traveled west to interview Dr. Colton Lee for an article, yet it’s Lee’s fearless sister, Spring, who captures his interest. Clad in denim and buckskins instead of dresses, she’s the most fascinating woman he’s ever met. And he’s certain she also feels the connection that sizzles between them.

But when a shadow from Spring’s past returns, all is on the line: her ranch, her safety - and this wild, fierce love.

Ewwwww

Jeez. I though there would be a story about the woman’s life and more of an aside, there would be a romance. There’s almost nothing about her. It’s kind of disgusting how ridiculously easy she falls for this guy when she is supposed to be an independent, strong woman. The conversation is so boring. Not worth listening to even as dishwashing background noise. I’m returning it.

Disappointing. A hodgepodge of stories from prior

books. If you have read any of her other books from the women who dare series then you've read this one. Save your credits for something else.

Good Book but not one of my favorite

I've read mostly all of Beverly Jenkins romance books and this was not one of her best or one of my favorite. I felt as though the writing style changed. One of the unique things I've always enjoyed about her books is the history details she includes in her book and I felt it wasn't her usual style. The main character was strong but I didn't feel as though I connected with her. Ms. Jenkins stories usually have big climatic ending and I didn't get it in this book. I felt as though the ending left me hanging. There was no epilogue in this book and I had to draw my own conclusions. A little disappointed.

Loved Every Minute

I have always wanted to read a Beverly Jenkins novel but never got around to doing so. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to relate to the historical settings and characters but I LOVED every minute of listening to this book. She is now in the top 5 of my favorite authors. This was my first by Beverly Jenkins but most definitely not the last. I have a lot of books to catch up on and can't wait to start the next book.

Enjoyable love story

I loved the main female character Spring! The story had facts mixed in with fiction. I always know I'll learn something while enjoying a love story!

Engaging!

Beverly Jenkins did it again. I absolutely loved this story. The history, her characters' truths...everything about this book holds your interest. Kim Staunton's narration was captivating also. The voice intonation were spot on. I felt that I was there in that era. well done!

Spring and Garrett, a true romance

I truly enjoyed this novel. This was my second listen and somehow I enjoyed it more this time. Spring is strong and unconventional for her time. She was unapologetic from start to finish. I was a fan of Spring when we first met her in Tempest, so I was happy to see her get a book. Garrett McCray is, simply put, a beautiful soul. He’s a former slave, learned to read after his enslavement, joined the Navy, became a Carpenter, and worked part time as a reporter for his father’s fledgling newspaper. They were completely different people, and by all accounts they shouldn’t work as a couple. But in the skilled hands of Beverly Jenkins, they did. I think their love story is now on the list of my top three BJ romantic couples. And side note… I absolutely loved the relationship between Spring and Regan. Their sister-in-law friendship was beautifully written. Bravo.
And as always, Kim Staunton was a wonderful narrator.

A nice lusty love story

This is classic romance novel with lusty sex, an antagonist and a hero. However Spring is an atypical main character and the reason she qualifies as a women who dares.
