Summary

One fateful night will change their lives forever. Seeley is born a hunter. God’s warrior. She’s endowed with inexplicable gifts to slay creatures and demons threatening humans. Alongside her guardian angel, Ezekiel, she will face unimaginable trials and tribulations.

Jack Chase was born an orphan. Kicked from foster home to foster home, he lands with a couple who worships Satan. He succumbs to their diabolical rituals, and learns he also has extraordinary talents. Wealthy, Asa Trebane, and leader of the Black Order of the Cult locates this teenager he’s heard much about. He takes Jack under his wing and into his home. A mysterious pull leads Jack to Seeley. A pull neither of them can resist.

For a young teen audience

This is a 'God vs The Devil' type, coming-of-age book which is definitely for a young teen audience. The book starts with Seeley's story which incorporates school antic's including the typical 'plastic' school bully, prom, dating issues etc. Then all of a sudden halfway through, the book full on focuses on Jack and the Occult. There's a very questionable situation where a girl is forced to drink a potion she doesn't want, drugging her & rendering her out of her mind, she then had s3x with a guy in this state & wakes up not remembering what happened to her! Sound familiar? Due to her state of mind, there was 'no consent' and the author does nothing to address this issue or the fact that she was badly betrayed by her love interest. Considering this book is written for a younger audience, I feel the author should have done more to clarify that what happened to her "was not OK", but it was just skipped over. For what it was, it felt like a long book to get through because it didn't hold my interest, and the ending was a bit flat. A lot of the pending action & 'excitement' leading up to the ending, especially with the constant referencing to 'The Prophecy', was continuously implied but never really materialises into anything special.

There are some editing issues with the narrator repeating sentences already said. Also, the narration really wasn't the best. At one point in the story a new character pops up and the narrator sounded like she'd put water or cotton wool in her mouth to try and sound like a different character, but I couldn't understand most of what she was saying. Overall, it wasn't for me.

I was given this book for free of my own choosing and I voluntarily left this review.
