Summary
An Introduction to Carnism
Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows offers an absorbing look at what social psychologist Melanie Joy calls carnism, the belief system that conditions us to eat certain animals when we would never dream of eating others. Carnism causes extensive animal suffering and global injustice, and it drives us to act against our own interests and the interests of others without fully realizing what we are doing. Becoming aware of what carnism is and how it functions is vital to personal empowerment and social transformation, as it enables us to make our food choices more freely - because without awareness, there is no free choice.

An interesting book, an awful narrator
Already a vegan when I listened to this so hearing the stories of animal cruelty just reaffirmed my beliefs.
It will open the eyes of meat-eaters to a world where ignorance is bliss.
But the narrator is so irratating, it came across as patronising.

it's nit really "Why"
The beginning is about "Why" - the psychology around eating or not eating animals. Then, there are episode on top of episodes describing the cruelty animals go through and they have nothing to do with "Why" humans behave the way they do around that. So the title is very misleading.
in addition the narrator is very hard to listen to, she sounds like she can't keep it together and about to cry.
I sped it to the end and marked it done without actually finishing, It was not what I thought it would be.

Deeply important and helpful
This is a deeply helpful, insightful and important book. It will be remembered as one of the big steps along the way of the social transformation that is veganism.

One of the best ones on veganism
This book is packed with important information around veganism. It discusses so many different important topics and there’s it includes resources. The audiobook is good too and easy to listen. Will listen to it again every now and then.

obvious points, wrong approach
Clocked out after the "backwards societies" of East Asia comments. Unbelievably arrogant and self defeating arguement for an otherwise great cause.

Essential reading for everyone
This is a really interesting book whether or not you are for or against veganism. The book delves into our psyche and belief systems and explores why we believe what we believe. It's a great read for anyone who wants to question what is right or wrong. On top of that, the book provides a clear explanation of where our food comes from. I'm grateful that I live in Europe and not in the USA.

Good for meat eaters and new vege people
A very decent introduction for people who know nothing about the meat & dairy production business.

Propaganda
It’s just a tirade. I’m glad I didn’t listen to it before dropping meat from my diet.
