About this listen
Tazãr Bao, an expert Exorcist for the Guild of Magic, is about to have his world turned upside down. Yet again. When Tazãr enters a sanctuărium for the Mages to receive a restorative spiritual energy treatment, he is reunited with the last person he ever expected to encounter—an Alpha Demon, Inuel Morhh, the one who’d left Tazãr with a shattered heart two years prior. Can Tazãr find the strength to trust Inuel again? Can he forgive him? Will being thrown together in a place where they can’t revert to lies help them make sense of their past and build a future?
Where Exorcists Cannot Lie is a second chance, forced proximity romantasy that follows a petite Exorcist Mage and an Alpha Demon with a penchant for kittens.

Short story
I enjoyed that while other books with a 2nd chance trope usually start after the first relationship, this book has their first meeting as the book opener and their 2nd chance later so we get to experience both situations. However, their one year relationship in between was off page and I felt like this was definitely missed. There wasn't alot of character and relationship development.
There are lots of mentions of steam but most was fade to black. It kind of made their chemistry fall flat for me. It's unfortunate because both characters had lots of appeal and more on page steam would have made this a great story. There is one steamy scene but even that was very rushed.
The book had a lot of potential and could be a great story but as is there was alot that missed the mark. The ending especially left alot to unpack.
This was a new to me author. Not sure if I would read them again.
The narrator did a great job. Their voice was pleasant to listen to. He kept a good pace and he expressed all the emotions wonderfully. He gave all the characters their own distinct voice that suited them perfectly and it brought the story to life.

Second chances
Second chances stories are not my favourite, but this is Kasia Bacon so of course she made me forgive and wish for the second opportunity. The special feature mentioned in the title that don’t allow lies is quite interesting for this troupe (and fun).
Amazing worldbuilding as always, with further knowledge about mages and Elder Races—demons in this case—, and spirit power. Beautiful and funny, and so darn touching as usual with this author’s books. And her endings, always satisfying.
I like Xendra quite a lot, she reminds me of Ranélle from When I first saw Red.
The narrator is quite good, I guess I just need to get accustomed to a new one. I liked Inuel’s voice a lot, it got my attention since the very first moment, so deep and inciting.
«"Happiness" (…) could be as tricky to preserve as water in cupped hands. One moment you had it but the next it slipped through your fingers, no matter how tightly knit».

I don't know how Bacon does it!
I don't know how Bacon does it. Somehow she takes these shorter stories and just makes them so much bigger. I fell in love with Tazar instantly, and since he's our main POV it took a while to warm up to Inuel, but when I got there, I really got there. I have sporadically read through the series, and while I'm sure I'd get more out of it if I read everything, I never feel lost in the details. And the audio narrated by Rowan Scott was just perfection. The only reason these shorter stories are hard is because I'm greedy and would love to read more!

A Unique World, Great Performance by R. Scott
Kasia Bacon always puts such unique and creative twists in her stories, and Where Exorcists Cannot Lie is so clever! I always enjoy tales of magic and sorcery, and nobody has a better imagination than Kasia Bacon when it comes to painting a picture of a dark and sultry world.
Where Exorcists Cannot Lie is a second chance romance which adds a whole additional layer of fabulousness to this story. Super powerful.
The audio version of Where Exorcists Cannot Lie is beautifully performed by Rowan Scott.

Wonderful second chance romance, fantasy
Tazar and Inuel met a few years ago through "work" as it were.
They dated but Inuel was commitment shy and left Tazar heartbroken.
Life, it seems, has left it's mark on them both.
They meet once again in a secluded place and it seems that now might just ve the right time for them.
The world building was absolutely amazing and I'm looking forward to more from this author.
Rowan Scott did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.
