About this listen
Caught in the hook of love, a young woman marries a dashing university professor. She moves to a rain-washed coastal town to be with him, but behind closed doors she discovers that her perfect husband is a perfect monster. As he sets about battering her into obedience, and as her family pressures her to stay in the marriage, she swears to fight back - a resistance that will either kill her or set her free.

Excellent and challenging story
This was a challenging account of a woman's experience of coercive control and domestic violence. It also gave an insight into the misogyny in a culture, how people turn a blind eye, accept violence against women and girls as normal, and seldom blame or punish the perpetrator.

Emotive, concerning, eye opening !
there was never a second where I wasn’t enthralled.. how a woman can write so beautifully about something so horrible escapes me , every single word is emotive and empowering… I unwittingly learned so much ..I wish I had more words ..

Absolutely vital
The writing and delivery of it convey with a type of poetry how strong a woman has to be to withstand the physical and mental effects of being married to an abuser. It’s outstanding

Powerful, evocative and beautiful.
This should be on the reading lists of all book groups, writing groups and school study lists. Its powerful, honest and incredibly harrowing but told from a position of strength. The protagonist never loses her beautiful way with words, even in the darkest times.
