Summary
Epic fantasy legend, and author of number-one New York Times best-selling series The Wheel of Time®, Robert Jordan's never-before published novel, Warrior of the Altaii....
Draw near and listen, or else time is at an end. The watering holes of the Plain are drying up, the fearsome fanghorn grow more numerous, and bad omens abound. Wulfgar, a leader of the Altaii people, must contend with twin queens, warlords, prophets, and magic in hopes of protecting his people and securing their future. Elspeth, a visitor from another world, holds the answers, but first Wulfgar must learn to ask the right questions.
But what if the knowledge that saves the Altaii will also destroy them?
“Jordan has come to dominate the world Tolkien began to reveal.” (The New York Times)

Jordan was a master
This novel, a novel that lay unpublished while Robert Jordan was still among us makes one all the sadder knowing that he was this much under appreciated. Evidenced by the fact that we were kept from enjoying this work of the master storyteller for that much longer

Not your usual Robert Jordan
Having not read any of the Conan novels by Robert Jordan, this novel came as a bit of a surprise to me. The similarities to the Wheel of Time series were very limited, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I can see why there was no rush to print. It's just not on RJ's level for what he is known for.

The seed of WoT.
Loved it from beginning to end. This is the start of the idea for Wheel of Time. But a different story, in a different time, in a different land, with a different hero.

Good First Story
This book was a pleasant surprise! With anything published by a deceased author, I always expect something unfinished or else unpolished enough that they didn't want it to be published while they were alive. Warrior of the Altaii was nothing of the sort.
Yes, the beginning was a bit slow, but press on and it'll keep you wanting more. It's short for the kind of epic fantasy Jordan is famous for, so definitely expect less development than WoT, but for what it is it's solid enough. The ending feels a bit abrupt, so don't worry if you're 3/4 in but still wondering where this is all going.
A lot of the story was torture or abuse of some kind or another, which made sense for the world and characters, but wasn't the most pleasant to imagine over and over, so if you're more squeamish this isn't going to be your thing.

A bitter sweet story
What a fantastic story teller, it’s hard to listen to this book knowing that there are no more books coming over the horizon. This is a fantastic stand alone story that reaches into different realities and masterfully mixes technology and magic in a unique and exciting way.

Interesting world
I am glad I listened to this book, but kinda sad that this is most likely all there will ever be for this world. There are aspects that I could tell influenced Robert Jordan's later works, but the world this book presented deserves it's own saga.

needs a finish
Brandon Sanderson did such a good job with TWOT maybe he could help finish this series up?

Posthumously Published Robert Jordan's 1st Triumph
The first fantasy book written by Robert Jordan, this jewel somehow never saw the bookstores during his life. First class characters, simple magic, believable world setting, this fast paced page turner is written into the mind by Michael Kramer's audio performance. Outside the WOT, "... this was A beginning."

This story has no plot.
This is a story of a warrior member of a Viking-like society that exists by raiding and stealing. That should have been enough to put me off this book right off the bat, but I stuck with it. As it turns out, the story proceeds from one battle to the next with no real goal or objective behind all the fighting. I’ll admit that the description of the action was excellent, but it seems there wasn’t much more to this book. What’s more, the ending ties up the first chapter in this saga, but leaves a lot of open ends that were not tied up. I don’t intend to continue with this series.

Classic Jordan
I would say a high school to adult story. I would not read all of it aloud or listen to it aloud for everyone to hear cuz it does have some parts that I don't think are appropriate for all audiences. But I love all the rest of it. and sometimes I forgot which author was writing it I guess I see a lot more now why Robert Jordan pick Brandon Sanderson to continue on his Wheel of Time series. I thought it was really interesting. there are definitely parts that I would never include in a book. but he's not like totally as graphic as some other authors are.
