Summary
Having found his place as a squire to a Norman knight, Roland Inness sets off with his master, Sir Roger de Laval, and fellow squire on a perilous mission to the Holy Land. King Richard has sworn to take Jerusalem from Saladin and orders Sir Roger to assess the military situation. Joining them is the Templar Knight Tuck as they contend with Moors, Berbers and a Sicilian usurper before reaching the battlefields in the east. There, Roland sees the ugly face of war and tests his mettle.
In England, the land is awash in political intrigue, led by Prince John and Sir William de Ferrers, Roland's mortal enemy. Countering them is Queen Eleanor who picks Sir Roger's daughter Millicent for her own mission—one that puts her at the center of a plot to turn England against King Richard. Warbow, the action-filled follow-on to Longbow, is the second book in The Saga of Roland Inness series.

More gripping adventure
Would you consider the audio edition of Warbow to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, and being blind, I never will.

This is as packed full of action and adventure as was the first book. The multiple plot lines were well handled without being too complicated, and added an extra spice of intrigue. The attention to historical detail was superb, and the blend with mythology was just right.

Ruined by a narrator with no understanding of accents or cadence
I am enjoying the story albeit the equivalent of a mills and boon level of language. The story line is good but the dialogue is hammy at best not helped by a narrator that can do nasal, Irish nasal and Spanish with a hint of Irish still very nasal. Almost every character sounds a bit like Smeagol when you’d expect them to big burly characters they sound thin and reedy. I am still persevering as I want to know how the story goes. But I’d say these books are aimed at teenagers really. Not a bad listen though whilst working. High brow it is not. If you’ve been reading Bernard Cornwall or David Gilman you’ll feel a little numbed by the lacklustre dialogue and specifically the performance of the reader.
