Summary

Sunday Times best-selling author Andrew Morton reveals new information and sources that totally transform our perception of Wallis Simpson.

Wallis in Love brings a fascinating new perspective on the 20th century's most controversial royal scandal. Andrew Morton's impeccable research and unerring skill for riveting storytelling combine to present a strong case for a new and startling reveal: that the woman who rocked the world with her uncompromising passion for the Prince of Wales may have fooled everyone by keeping the object of her true passion hidden away....

From her relatively lowly beginnings in America - where young Wallis and her mother were dependent on her domineering and powerful uncle Sol, to her rise through the social ranks and her determination to one day beat men at their own game - to the ultimate conquest of the Prince of Wales. Morton paints a vivid and multifaceted picture of a compelling, ambitious and often hard-hearted woman who may have won the jewel in the British crown but very possibly at the expense of her true happiness.

Wallis in Love reveals the men Wallis truly loved, the men who broke her heart - and the hearts she broke in turn. In this vivid, fresh and frankly amazing portrait of the Duchess of Windsor, Morton draws on interviews, secret letters, diaries and never before seen or heard primary sources.

From the day she was born in a ramshackle cottage in the hills to revealing what really happened the night her husband died, Morton paints a fresh and enticing portrait of the Duchess of Windsor.

NOTHING NEW

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would like the Narrator to use an American accent when reading dialogue spoken by Americans. the speech patterns are all wrong!

Would you recommend Wallis in Love to your friends? Why or why not?

Only to people who know very little about Wallis Windsor. So much of this is well covered in other books I've read.

What three words best describe Cameron Stewart’s voice?

Pleasant, clear, English

Do you think Wallis in Love needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. there is nothing to be added

Any additional comments?

This sadly is really nothing new. It is highly unlikely, given other authors' evidence that Wallis was in love with Herman Rogers. In fact, Anne Sebba has proof that she regretted leaving Ernest, her husband, to whom she wrote after her split form him

A waste of lives

Nothing we didn't already know but sometimes a fresh eye is refreshing on an old story.

HOW VERY SAD

I have often said that Wallis Simpson was a much maligned women, and that the treatment meted out to her by her sister-in-law (the late Queen Mother), together with other members of the Royal family was misguided at best, and horrendous at worst.
If what Andrew Morton has written is true, then Wallis really seemed to be a social climber of the first order, but never happy whatever the outcome. It is claimed that Herman Rogers was the true love of her life, but was he? He clearly loved Wallis as a very dear friend, however, had she succeeded in "catching " him, I believe she would have become bored with him too. I think she was a deeply unfulfilled and unhappy woman.
I enjoyed listening to this audible book, however, although the narrator is very clear, I don't think it was at all necessary for him to use higher pitched voices when narrating the various women in the book. This is totally unnecessary in a biography, not to mention annoying.

Fairytale gone terribly wrong

Having long been fascinated with the history of Mrs Simpson (who went to school not far from where I grew up), the sad details of her increasingly unenviable life which went from bad to worse revealed a most sobering story. I wonder how different the tale might have been had she not been obsessed with the acquisition of a royal title. I did find the narrator’s monotonous droning a bit disappointing, as though he were bored out of his mind.

Fascinating

But narrated badly by someone who seems absorbed and paying attention to the task at times making listening enjoyable and then becoming careless, expressionless, and at times seemingly bored with the narration. A great shame.

VERY GOOD

Unlike 17 carnations which I also read, this one is much more detailed about her personality, she turned into a bitter woman
as she clearly did not want to be with the king she neither loved him nor respected him, especially in later years, she had a life sentence when he chose her she paid the price for all the jewelry and furnishings etc
HE NEVER WANTED TO BECOME KING...Thank god this weak man never got to become King,
she did us all a favour enjoyable read though

An accurate depiction

Having read many biographies of the Windsors I feel that Moreton has jus about nailed the truth about the pair here. The narrator leaves much to be desired.

What a FairyTale!!

As the title ‘Wallis in Love’ suggests, this a fairy tale! She was not as good as she was described in this book at all.
She wanted to be and thought she would become, Queen of England if she married King Edward Vlll -she was wrong! the government at the time, did not approve the match, mainly because she was twice divorced, and so he abdicated, but he was to suffer for that for the rest of his life, -she was no victim!
I could not believe what I was reading here, and I deleted the book for refund after the 3rd chapter!
