Summary

Jesse King doesn't want to go west, but her husband has never been all that concerned with what his wife wants.

When tragedy strikes, Jesse is rescued by the Lakota Sioux, among whom she finds unexpected peace, a sense of belonging, and the love of a lifetime.

A compelling tale of one woman's extraordinary faith as God leads her from prairie schooner to tepee, from tepee to frontier fort, and on to a growing state capitol.

Too much Christian missionary content

The basic plot idea is good but the characters are flat and dependent on the plot to be interesting. Did finish listening, because the constant religious content wasn’t what I was here for ...

Great story, mediocre reading

I purchase audiobooks based on favorite books I have already read, so I'm always going to give a high rating to my purchased books. But I have to say that I did not feel that the audible version was much better than the computer-automated voice that comes with my kindle reader. Ms. Hanfield is quite monotone, and puts almost no emotion in her reading. I would return it if I could.

Compelling story, not so great narration

The narrator started getting on my nerves not too far into the book. She reads in a soft, sing song tone that gets in the way quite a bit. Fortunately, the story was compelling enough to make it worth listening to anyway. I was a bit disappointed about how it ended, as I kept hoping Jesse would go back to her step son and people at some point, or at least be of more help to them, but the story veered off in a different direction. Still, it was an interesting story.

Great book!

I loved this book many years ago when I read it and I love it even more now that I’ve listened to it.
It is a story of faith, love and forgiveness written so beautifully and based on historical facts.
I would highly recommend the book. It is a great reminder to keep ones faith even through the toughest of times God is there!

heartbreakingly beautiful

Such a beautiful story of one woman's life and the struggles she faced. Her life was a testament of God's love and tender mercies as she walked with him till he called her home.

Heartwarming

I read this book as a young adult and it brought back great memories as I listened to the tale of Walks the Fire. I look forward to listening to the rest of the Prairie Wind series. So good!

More Bible than story

I didn’t realize that the entire Bible would be read in this book. Narration was like molasses and I think the story could have been told in 1 hour if you took out all the Bible verses. Not a fan.
