About this listen

Vengeance is an addiction, a need, a necessity.

Vengeance is all Samantha is living for.

They took her dignity; they caused her pain.

They will pay.

Samantha has come a long way from being the daughter of Satan’s right-hand man. She’s been burned down to her soul, and she’s back to find the one who ordered her torture. Together with her best friend, an order of militant nuns, and a tech wizard, she’s out to take down the leader of the movement. In the battle between good and evil, faith and vengeance are all that are left.

This thriller is a continuation of the Victor McCain series, telling Samantha's story between the events of The Speaker and Revenge.

So Vengeance is the first Sam Tyler solo novel. It's a spin off that takes place just after the Vic McCain book 3, The speaker, which was my favourite so far.

If you haven't got up to date on the Victor McCain series by Tony Acree I would recommend doing so before reading this. It's probably not absolutely essential but you get so much context to the history of the characters both in this book and mentioned in passing that I think you might get a bit lost if you don't know who, Kurt or "the big guy" are.

Also you won't necessarily know why Samantha wants the Vengeance the title refers to.

Without spoiling things the Vengeance wasn't for what or on whom that I thought it would be, I didn't read the summary before hand so it wasn't exactly a plot twist but I would have thought something else would have been fresher in Samantha's mind. If you have read the summary it will come as no surprise to you however.

I enjoyed the story, having known the character from The Hand of God we got to know Samantha better and see her form her own little scooby gang of helpers and sidekicks who help her on her journey.

There's plenty of evil doers for Sam to get to grips with and the parallel of what the bad guys are up to is quite interesting too and something that will get built upon.

I'm so bad at writing reviews because I want to spill the beans on the plot so I'll skip onto the narrator Louise Cooksey who on the whole I enjoyed listening to, her voices for the American characters were great but her French accent needs a bit of work, I thought that she sounded like she was doing a Thai accent at some points :p a criticism maybe but not a massive one at all.

On the whole I like how similar this is to the Vic McCain series and it could easily have been written by Tony Acree on his own, I'd be interested to know how Tony and Rachel wrote together to keep the tone consistent.

Can't wait for the next one, I hope Sam and the big guy can do a crossover!

Successful Spin Off, Very Enjoyable
