Story
A decorated knight for Richard the Lionheart and an ally of the House of de Lohr, Sir Garret de Moray was a man described as cold, intimidating, foreboding. A man with eyes as black as night. Receiving a royal appointment as Captain of the Household Guard, there was no man more qualified or prepared for the role because on the sands of the Holy Land where Garret went on Richard’s great quest, the Christian armies whispered of a knight whose wisdom was ancient. Some wondered if he was the walking dead, an immortal soul who had lived many lifetimes over, because his skill and power exceeded earthly restraints. Kronos, they called him. The father of the gods. Then came a lady without hope…

Summary
Listeners take note: This work was originally published under the title For Love and Honor, but it had been reissued with a new ending and bonus chapters!
1469 A.D. - Brogan d'Aurilliac is a master sergeant in the infantry of Edward IV. The son of a Germanic knight, he came to England at his father's death and worked his way up through the ranks of the infantry to become the king's highest ranking soldier. Brogan is a very large man with power and skill, but uneducated due to his family's immigrant social standing.
He meets our heroine by chance, a member of the mighty de Nevilles, the most powerful ruling family in England. The Lady Avalyn du Brant's uncle is the all-powerful Richard Neville, "The Kingmaker". Although Brogan knows she is out of his league, he is nonetheless taken by her. Avalyn, too, is intrigued by the big soldier with the heavy accent and menacing presence. What starts out as pity for the man turns to something else and her uncle, used to meddling in people's lives, seeks to separate his niece from Brogan by betrothing her to a powerful but foolish baron.
Yet Avalyn is intelligent; she takes charge of the situation and, like a great chess match, seeks to beat her uncle at his own game. Brogan, the man that enemy and ally alike call "The Monster" in battle, offers support and affection such as Avalyn has never known in this story of reversal of roles.
She is the 'smart and cunning' one in this battle to save her relationship with Brogan from her uncle's destruction.

Intriguing book with 2 endings
As an avid Kathryn Le Veque fan, have been deliberately leaving this book because of its controversial nature. It was originally written with an ending, which Kathryn has rewritten & rebranded.
It is the love story against the backdrop of Edward IV & The Kingmaker falling out in the late 1460's. Avalyn is related to the Kingmaker Richard Neville but inadvertently bumps into a German soldier Brogan, who was at a crossroads in his life. The story tells of their love & how far they would go to be together. I do prefer the new ending but I cannot spoil too much for the reader - just to say I felt it flowed slightly better. Both endings are in the audiobook so take your choice?

I'm so relieved she rewrote the ending
This is a rewrite (and re-titling) of an earlier Veque novel, For Love and Honour. I'm so glad she did the rewrite. While the original ending may have been more correct for that time, as a romance it didn't work for me. If I wanted a depressing romance, I'd read Thomas Hardy. Thanks for the rewrite, Kathryn Le Veque - I love your medieval romances.

I'm so glad you rewrote the ending
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I definitely would recommend this to a friend it was a wonderful book and I just loved the end when they were together in a new country with their children.
What did you like best about this story?
It shows that no matter if you are rich, poor or from different backgrounds love can always make it work.
What does Tim Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Emotion and a feeling of being there with the characters
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes. I cried but they were happy tears.
Any additional comments?
I have all of Kathryn Le Veque audiobooks and can't wait for her new book coming out the end of October. I find from her website that some books are not available in audiblebooks and wish something could be done about it.

TWO STORIES ENDINGS
I truly glad how Kathryn rewrote the ending. Brogan and Avalyn belong together. William should had just stayed her friend because that all he was to her threw out the book. I truly didn't like the original version much at all. I enjoyed the rewrite..

I can appreciate both endings.
Everyone loves a good HEA. But life isn't really like that, is it? I think that's why I can appreciate both endings of this story. I personally got my own HEA, but I had to go through Hell first to get it. I'm much more grateful for what I have now because of what I had to go through to get it. Sometimes, life just doesn't turn out the way we want it to. However, I DO think that it turns out the way that it's supposed to. Bravo! To my favorite authoress.

2 Happy Endings!!
A very emotional and moving love story. I have read or listen to most of Kathryn’s books and have loved each one. The Valiant Chaos is unique because of the 2 different endings. I truly appreciate the enclosure of the original ending, along with the revised ending. Both are heartbreaking and happy at the same time. The raw emotion of each character was excellently written, which has left me in tears at times. Personally, I like the revised ending more, but because William was such a great character, it was good to see he has a happy ending too, in the original ending. I highly recommend all of Kathryn’s novels, but this one especially because of the 2 Happy Endings!!
Keep writing Kathryn! You’ve brought me endless hours of enjoyment with each of your novels!

One Book. TWO Endings.
This story was awesome and while I can understand the disappointment of the original ending, I have to say that it was my favorite. I am happy that the author rewrote it for those hopeless romantic readers but I thought the original was heartbreaking and realistically charming. I really enjoyed this book and BOTH endings.
