Summary

I stood by and let it happen for too long, but I will not do it anymore. I will not be the person who watches others get hurt and does nothing to stop it. Not anymore.

Returning to Sovereign City after everything that was stolen from her is something Indra never thought she would do. Despite the scars she wears both inside and out, left there at the hands of the Sovereign and the Fortis, she is determined to save her people from oppression, even if it means putting her own safety at risk. But it isn’t long before she once again finds her world shattering around her. As the dust settles, Indra manages to find strength among the ruins, and she sets out on a quest to unite the four Outlier tribes, hoping to take their enemies down once and for all.

With a Rebel Yell... she cried more more more!

I received this book via a free promo code and this is my voluntary review.

Book 2 in the Outliers series.... now it does a pretty decent recap but you should enjoy Outliers before you make it this far so you can understand the true source of the trust Indra has for Asa and why she needs revenge against the Sovereign and Forties.

The Sovereign have been plotting for a long time to enslave their Outlier servants in Forties village and keep them even more in their grasp.. as if slavery would be an efficient improvement from the indentured servitude that they currently suffer. Forties are the domesticated thugs at the walls of Sovereign city and sometimes their cruelty is even worse than that of the Sovereign, as they abuses their own position to kill and hurt Outliers for sport since they cannot take their anger out on their masters.

Indra has now recovered from her injuries after her husband Bodhi was killed by her Mistress Saffron orders, soon though, she discovers a thirst for revenge, and she gets it by slaying Forties hunting parties who venture into the Wilds. Before long Indra has returned to her position in the House of Saffron but with a very specific goal in mind. Not content with just revenge for herself, she wants to free all her people.. every Outlier.

Asa is still as in love with Indra as ever, unable to be with her as he works as a Forties Guard for the House of Saffron and hes desperate to protect her this time around. When Saffron's evil son tries to violate Indras friend Mira, she takes swift action setting into motion a series of events which leads to the decimation of the Winta Tribe. With the few remaining survivors of her people, Indra recruits the other leaders of fellow Outlier tribes and the rebellion is underway.

Ends on a cliff hanger but dont all the best things come in 3s????

All the brilliance of the first book and more.

A fantastic sequel to the first book that highlights the power of a collective cause and what can be achieved when human kind overcome difference.

Great book but Hoped for more

I would say that I am veracious reader and listener and get through a few books/ Audio books a week. I have eclectic tastes which range from Jeffrey Archer to Stephen King, My main genres are Fantasy and Sci-fi.

I contacted the author on social media who very kindly gave me a copy of the book.

I was overjoyed by the first book and it is easily was my favourite book of 2019 so far so I had high hopes for the second instalment.

Again I love the Narrator I know some people are not keen on her accent but it is so distinct and unlike anything that I have listened to before. I feel that she is perfect for the story, Also the quality of the recording is awesome!

So the story why did I only give it 4 stars, the main reason was that the plot was relatively straight forward not that this is a bad thing but it wasn't what I expected after listening to the first book. I almost felt like it was trying to get from point to point in the quickest/easiest way.

The character development was good especially with the main protagonist growing and starting to get a wider perspective.

I'm looking forward to the next book and hoping to delve deeper into the world. I would recommend this book to anyone and still believe that it has potential to be an epic series.
