Summary

Betsy Devonshire has settled into her new home in Excelsior, Minnesota, as owner of the town’s needlecraft shop. So why is she suffering from terrifying nightmares? She hasn’t a clue—but thinks maybe it would help to get away for a while. With her friend Jill in tow, she heads north for a “stitch-in” at a remote, rustic lodge. But her nightmares only get worse—especially after she finds a dead woman no one else had seen. Then the body disappears—and she knows she won’t get any rest until she untangles the mysterious threads of the crime....

Betsy goes from strength to strength in this clever story set in snow away from Excelesior.

A Typical Cozy Mystery

An enjoyable addition to the needlecraft mystery series. A new setting, with our heroine sleuthing on vacation, provides a new raft of characters. Suspending belief is, as always, required, but this is a pleasant listen.
The narration is, however, something of an acquired taste. The delivery is quite stilted and wouldn't suit everyone. I found that, once I had become used to the style, it didn't spoil the book for me.

Gentle and enjoyable.

An enjoyable listen but I didn’t realise, stupidly, that there would be so many sewing references. Nice and gentle as murder mysteries go.

Very good

I am really enjoying this series of books. The central characters are very likeable and it is very nice to be in their company. The books are very well written, and are written with real intelligence. I feel sad when each novel ends because they are so enjoyable.

Not quite so cosy a Cozy.

This one’s a weird tale. Curious but not overly interesting.

There are very few nice, interesting or endearing characters and that, coupled with Betsy’s angst, is quite wearing.

A very clever plot, but not an enthralling or entertaining one. This is my least favourite thus far. Perhaps they should stick close to home (or go to Europe)!

Love Monica Ferris! Narration A Bit Choppy. However...

I so enjoy Monica Ferris mysteries!
This narration was a bit challenging for me to listen to at first due to it being so choppy. However, I have listened to later book marathons by Susan Boyce and she is much improved!

Decent story

Unraveled sleeve was a bit of a convoluted mystery. Though I must say that the clues to the identity of the murderer were liberally scattered throughout the story. The revelation threw me for half a loop & was done in such a way that it felt like the author was trying to tie up the story in a hurry.

There were several long pauses (about 10-15 seconds) in the audio book like the narrator lost her place & they forgot to run it back.

A sleeve wasn't unraveled

It wasn't one of my favorite Monica Ferris stories. I felt that there was too much needle work situations. The snotty conversation between different types of needlework was a bit "high school ish".

Enjoyable series!

I like this series but I am a crafter and really that aspect of the books. The mysteries are pretty easy to figure out and Betsy is really no great sleuth to be honest. But they are gentle and light. I did however get the next in the series - A Murderous Yarn and found it to be dreadful. It was even slower than normal and almost completely about antique cars (which I guess if you enjoy...I don't). I returned it and therefore can't review it (which is odd when you think about it). I do plan to buy the next in series provided it is back on track with a focus on crafting.

Monica has the perfect ingredients

Where does Unraveled Sleeve rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I rate this in my top 10 of "just to relax & enjoy". Although it is not what I would personally call a "gripping" book, again it is a VERY great story that is told in a very clean & calm atmosphere with an easy to listen to narration. I listened to it twice in the first 3 weeks of purchase, and will return to listen yet again without a doubt, as with the other titles in this series.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This house is filled with movies & books - finding one that actually keeps us on the "edge" are very rare. I will say it was a very smooth written and not easily figured out by the end of each chapter.

Have you listened to any of Susan Boyce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I am very pleased with her work to date.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"Allergic to Falling Flakes" * due to the weather, the waterfall that is involved, what she was knitting at the time*

Any additional comments?

I am off to read the next in the series ! I need to soon begin searching for another series of books that will keep me going through the many nights of 3 am knitting as I try to fight the routines of chronic pain.

Another good!!!

These are definately fireside listens. They are far fetched in that the police are so laid back. Hopefully this is not the way in real life, but they make for easy and enjoyable listening.

I am going through the whole series in the proper order, and enjoying each of these books.

Dot

This one was a good mystery I had one person picked as the murder and it was the kids that had done it.
