About this listen

A woman finds a body, and her life is overturned....

Under Your Skin is a gripping psychological thriller in which nothing can be assumed and no one should be trusted. "This morning, I found a body. Soon the police will arrest me for murder. And after that my life will fall apart."

Gaby Mortimer is the woman who has it all. But everything changes when she finds a body on the common near her home. Because the evidence keeps leading back to her. And the police seem sure she's guilty....

Under Your Skin is an unpredictable, exquisitely twisty story, which proves that there are only three rules in life that mean anything: Assume nothing. Believe no one. Check everything.

Fantastic - gripping and engrossing

I was hooked in straight away and what starts as a fairly trashy chick-lit book quickly became so much more. Avoid spoilers at all costs. It's not often I'm surprised by a book with a twist, and at times I felt it was all getting a little predictable, but enjoyed it all the same. But then it twisted away from me again, and I was sucked back in.

After I finished the book, I immediately started listening to it again, and it is then that you realise quite how clever this little gem is, and how all the little details are integral to the plot.

Tracy-Ann Oberman's narration is spot on too.

Still making my mind up!

If you could sum up Under Your Skin in three words, what would they be?

Twists and turns

What about Tracy-Ann Oberman’s performance did you like?

Tracy gave the characters individuality and personality. The performance was very good!! She did the author and characters proud!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I found myself wanting to listen to it every spare moment I have.

Any additional comments?

I loved the book, right up until the last chapter, where I found myself not so keen.

Brilliant!

Loved it! twists this way and that, gripping, riveting, great characterisations. This book has it all, could hardly put it down.
Narration grated a little here and there, sounded at times, especially early on, as though narrator was trying to get to the end of a shopping list as quickly as possible, but either i got used to it or she evened up a bit as it went on, or perhaps it just better suited the pace once it got cracking. Thoroughly enjoyed it none the less!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Under Your Skin?

The twist at the end - don't want to say anymore, so as not to spoil the story

What does Tracy-Ann Oberman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Her voice was amazing, rich and husky. Really brought the characters to life and I enjoyed the different accents.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely, I only stopped listening when I fell asleep

Any additional comments?

This was an excellent book, wonderful narrator. I would definitely recommend it.

Interesting read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it, although I would advise some patience - at first the book seems to be quite a different story, a traditional whodunnit, centered on a murder of un unknown girl, whose body has been discovered by a successful TV presenter who seems to have it all. After a while you realise that it's actually more complex, psychological thriller in which you don't know what to expect next.

What other book might you compare Under Your Skin to, and why?

It reminded me a little bit of "Gone girl" by Gillian Flynn or "Before I go to sleep" by S.J. Watson - for the nightmarish atmosphere, sensation of being trapped, impression that everyday situations, people around us are menacing, hostile, untrustworthy.

Did Tracy-Ann Oberman do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

At the beginning the voice of the narrator was irritating: high-pitched, wailing, talking very fast - now I think it was done to convey the nervousness and despair of the protagonist, the thoughts rushing in her head.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It kept me hooked for three days - I wanted to discover what would happen next.

Tracy-Ann Oberman brought the character to life, she gave the character an innocence to be believed.

Never a second chance!
