Summary

In Trans Like Me, CN Lester takes listeners on a measured, thoughtful, intelligent yet approachable tour through the most important and high-profile narratives around the trans community, turning them inside out and examining where we really are in terms of progress.

From the impact of the media's wording in covering trans people and issues to the way parenting gender-variant children is portrayed, Lester brings their charged personal narrative to every topic and expertly lays out the work left to be done. Trans Like Me explores the ways that we are all defined by ideas of gender - whether we live as he, she, or they - and how we can strive for authenticity in a world that forces limiting labels.

Insightful, poignant, and well researched

I loved this book in print, and the audio book is really great to listen to.
CN Lester has written a book which is accessible for a cis audience, as well as engaging trans people. Nothing is overly simplified, yet everything is understandable and humanised. In doing this they have achieved something I am yet to see in any other book.

As a trans person CN's insights are relatable - eloquently expressing feelings I have often struggled to express. It has also given me much cause to reflect and think deeper on many of the themes touched by the book.

For a cis person curious about what it means to be trans today, who is confused by media coverage or who wants to know how to support a trans family member, friend or colleague this book gives an insight I have yet to find paralleled in any other publication.

Wonderful

Determined to be a more inclusive employer and friend, this book was a really great start on my journey to become better educated as a cis-woman. Would really recommend. Lester’s voice is gorgeous to listen to as well, their message passionate and intelligent, eye-opening and important. Thank you.

A very important book.

As the cis father of a trans daughter, this book has opened my eyes to much of the trials faced by the trans community and I feel it will help me to be a better ally to all members of the LGBTQ community.
The author is not only an excellent writer but their narration is beautiful.
A wonderful book, indeed.

Engaging and persuasive. An important book.

The author provides a passionate argument for us to consider trans lives with compassion. This is such an important book and I hope plenty of people read it.

Book of 2 halves

Their story beautifully written. But intentionally misses the substance of GC concerns so arguments for self ID etc are weak

Truly Profound, Heartbreaking and Affirming!

Fair warning: Transphobia & harm are openly discussed

This book made my soul soar, heart break and mind boggle. Truly the most important and personal book I've ever read and all the more special for being in the author's own wonderful voice.

A truly beautiful, important, informative and bravely open book I thoroughly recommend to absolutely everyone, my trans siblings and cis friends alike.

I felt great emotion all the way through, but the moment it ended I nearly burst into tears, absolutely covered in goosebumps and profoundly moved.

We needed this book. I needed this book. I cannot thank Dr Lester enough for writing it and sharing so much of themselves and their personal journey along with all the historical, political and medical information so often ignored or refuted by the media and society.

Every person needs to be loved for who they are...

A poignant, honest, brave and at times a difficult read, but it is a must. I recognised my own ignorance, and I have to be honest, I still don't quite get it all, but I'm ready to learn. The title of this review, taken from the book, is a good starting point in the learning process. Thank you CN.
