Summary

A new CD audio edition of Agatha Christie’s thriller, featuring Superintendent Battle.

What is the connection between a failed suicide attempt, a wrongful accusation of theft against a schoolgirl, and the romantic life of a famous tennis player?

To the casual observer, apparently nothing. But when a houseparty gathers at Gull’s Point, the seaside home of an elderly widow, earlier events come to a dramatic head.

It’s all part of a carefully paid plan – for murder…

Escapism in wartime - a world of cosy England

It is surprising to realise that this novel was published in 1944, but it does not take place in our space-time continuum, but in a well-to-do England which has not experienced the 14-18 war, let alone the rise of Fascism and the outbreak of war in ‘39.
It’s a fairly enjoyable fairy tale, with the usual crossed lovers and false trails.
Well narrated by Hugh Fraser, as we have learned to expect.

Great narration

Excellent narration. Good story. Makes you think you know who the murderer is, but you really don’t

One of the best

Great story and narration, possibly my favourite. Both the characters and the plot are very well done.

Chief Inspector Battle is a great creation.

I enjoyed the overlooked creation of Inspector Battle being at the centre of another great story. The twists and turns were as superb as always, and the manner in which the great lady brings all of the strands together into an utterly acceptable (and believable within the confines of literature) way, with her trademark, remarkable ingenuity and timing, is something to behold. Hugh Fraser's narration is pitch perfect, as always, and shows just what a wonderful, sadly overlooked, actor he is. If anyone deserves a knighthood for service to the arts, he does.

Hugh Fraser is a fantastic narrater and brings another of Agatha Christie's intruiging murder mysteries to life. Very entertaining and enjoyable.

One of Agatha Christie’s best, I think

Really good, engaging story, with lots of clues, and false trails, so you can enjoy puzzling it out for yourself. I was sorry when it came to an end.

Excellently read by Hugh Fraser.

I highly recommend it for fans of Agatha Christie, and mysteries in general.
