About this listen

Goodreads Choice Award for Best Science Fiction Novel.

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is a masterful epic science-fiction novel from the New York Times and Sunday Times best-selling author of the Inheritance Cycle, Christopher Paolini.

Kira Navárez dreamed of life on new worlds. Now she's awakened a nightmare.

During a routine survey mission on an uncolonized planet, Kira finds an alien relic. At first she’s delighted, but elation turns to terror when the ancient dust around her begins to move. As war erupts among the stars, Kira is launched into a galaxy-spanning odyssey of discovery and transformation. First contact isn’t at all what she imagined, and events push her to the very limits of what it means to be human. While Kira faces her own horrors, Earth and its colonies stand upon the brink of annihilation. Now, Kira might be humanity’s greatest and final hope....

Excellent Audio Story. Well Read.

I utterly disagree that this is too long.

It is a good story line with great character development and variety.

Really like the main character and the relationship she develops with her resulting crew as the saga develops.

Thoroughly recommend. 5 stars.

Props to the Author!

Surprisingly good

Books set in space are not my usual choice of reading matter, but I really enjoyed The Inheritance Cycle, so thought I would give this a go. I was not disappointed.
The narrator was great, and really brought the characters to life. I would definitely recommend it.

I can't sing enough prazes for this space opera!

I struggled to stop listening to this book, I was pulled in to this tale with the amazing lore, and completing narrative. Often I find myself looking for more once a novel has finished, find myself craving for a sequel, however with this book I was contented (that might not be a real word but it describes my feelings perfectly).

An enjoyable escape

I really enjoyed this book it is well written and thought out, I actually couldn’t stop listening at one point as it was like every time I was about to take a break another twist would happen and I’d have to continue. Well worth it

Space Jam

Well wrote (and better performed) this is a quaint sci fi romp that doesn't really do much with the runtime it has.

I lovet it, a brilliant sci-fi epic with quality voice acting. Jennifer Hale nails all 50 characters.

Excellent narration, but wow, so long!

Even though the book is 30+ hours, I was never bored, and even more importantly, never got annoyed with the narrator. Fantastic space scifi, great for beginners to the genre too. Highly recommended listening!

Poorly edited for audiobook, and too long!

I enjoyed listening to the story, but by the closing hours of the second part of the audiobook (20+ hours in I just wanted it to end so I could listen to something completely different instead.

The start of Part 3, 22/23 hours in got me enthused again, but really was the description of the gifts Kira gave to her crew necessary? The book could have ended before then with just the final sentence tacked on.

I became desperate for it to end, even though I had enjoyed large parts of it.

Luckily it seemed the book ended when there were still two hours to go. I don’t know, because I didn’t listen more than ten minutes to that ‘scientific’ babble about the FTL as I assumed it was the PDF that was supposed to be available with the audiobook download but was not (despite my writing to audible about it twice and receiving links twice that did nit work)… and it felt like it was just going to be twaddle to make you think the whole book was plausible. Utterly unnecessary, and audible should mercifully have told us the actual story ends two hours before the audio download does. How many trees died in vain for the print edition?

I enjoyed the story but instead of writing this ‘epic’ the author could have edited it down ti half the length and made a really good book of it.

I would be claiming back my credit as I listened to all but the last two hours, but I really had to separate the wheat from the chaff in the end.

Great idea, but I would rather have entered the 10,000 metres than the full marathon.

The reading was good and got better as the book went on, but sound editing was poor… frequently a few words were repeated presumably when the reader went for and came back from lunch and the tape got poorly spliced.

Am looking forward to deleting this and freeing up a lot of memory space on my phone.

In short…. Unnecessarily long.
