Summary

Marriage? It can be absolute murder.

Wedding planner for the rich and famous, Felicity Philips is aiming to land the biggest gig of her life - the next royal wedding. But there are a few obstacles in her way...not least of which is a dead body the police believe she is responsible for murdering.

Out of custody, but under suspicion, her rivals are lining up to ruin her name. With so much on the line, she needs to prove it wasn’t her and fast. But that means finding out who the real killer is...without said killer finding out what she is up to.

With Buster the bulldog as her protector and Amber the ragdoll cat providing sartorial wit - mostly aimed at the dog - Felicity is turning sleuth.

What does a wedding planner know about solving a crime?Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Get ready for a wild ride!

Not a patch on Culinary Capers

Having thoroughly enjoyed the utterly wonderful Albert Smith Culinary Capers series of audio books, I was looking forward to this book. I made it too the end, but certainly won’t listen to anymore.
The absolute worse part was the narrator. The main character was meant to be a woman of 55, but the reader made her sound like a posh fourteen year old, awful.
Some of the vocabulary was a little odd too. Why were measurements constantly in yards? I am of a similar age and have always used decimal. Another, ‘rubbish’ was constantly referred to as trash which was irritating too. While I realise these are familiar terms to Americans, this is set in Kent, England with English characters. It would be like a New York sleuth using British terms.
All round, it was an annoying book. I shall eagerly await a new Albert Smith book and give these a miss in the future.

Wonderful new series!

To Love and to Perish: Felicity Philips Investigates Book 1 is the start of another great series by Steve Higgs. Felicity was first introduced to readers in the Patricia Fisher series. She is a wedding planner, amateur sleuth, and can “hear” when her dog and cat “talk”. Fun characters, great dialogue and wonderful story! The narration by Katherine Anderson is absolutely fabulous! Ms. Anderson creates unique voices for each character and animal. She brings the story and characters to life!

It's nice.

A very good performance by Anderson, but the story itself is not as good as previous examples from Higgs. Most of the characters are either annoying or dumb to a level that surpass credibility, it feels all very forced. Buster is the only funny note, along with the ending.

Disappointed

I can honestly say I'm extremely disappointed with this audio book. This is nowhere near as good as Steve Higgs other series staring Albert and Rex.

The narrator did an OK job but wouldn't be my pick.

A real page turner

Narrator very good with different voices for the characters. Great story with a different twist of participating pet animals!

To love a good book

I enjoyed a few other book by this author featuring Patricia Fisher, so thought I would give this book ago. Glad I did because although slightly different I enjoyed it. It is only different because although still a very good mystery, it is whimsical in the fact that the main character Felicity can talk and understand her pets. I would have liked to have known why or how she can but in the end it didn't matter and didn't effect the enjoyment. The mystery was interesting, I had guessed who the killer was but that was more because everybody else had already been accused. I liked the characters, especially the niece and her ninja skills and the talking pets certainly added humour and funny situations for the main character to find herself in. I look forward to the next book.
Felicity is over seeing a rushed wedding for a friends daughter. The brides father is gravely ill and she wants him to walk her down the aisle before he dies. But the Wedding planning comes to a crashing halt when someone pushes the father off the balcony and the man last seen arguing with him dies in a car crash. The police suspect Felicity as the last silent business partner of the company of trying to kill off her partners. The only way to stay out of jail is to turn amateur sleuth and work out what is going on. Aided by her secret weapons, a ragdoll cat with an attitude problem, a bulldog with a hero complex and her niece who is a secret ninja in training they might just have to break a few rules to get to the bottom of this case and make sure the Wedding stays on track.
I liked the narrator. She sounded very English, which took a bit of getting use to because most narrator's are American but she was very good.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

All is never fair in love and war.

A wonderful introduction to Felicity Phillips, a wedding planner and occasional sleuth. Love the humour, hijinks and hilarity in this story. There are so many twists and turns it will make your neck hurt! My cheeks were aching because I couldn't stop laughing.
The narrator pulls off the story telling in spades!
