Wonderful new series!
To Love and to Perish: Felicity Philips Investigates Book 1 is the start of another great series by Steve Higgs. Felicity was first introduced to readers in the Patricia Fisher series. She is a wedding planner, amateur sleuth, and can “hear” when her dog and cat “talk”. Fun characters, great dialogue and wonderful story! The narration by Katherine Anderson is absolutely fabulous! Ms. Anderson creates unique voices for each character and animal. She brings the story and characters to life!

It's nice.
A very good performance by Anderson, but the story itself is not as good as previous examples from Higgs. Most of the characters are either annoying or dumb to a level that surpass credibility, it feels all very forced. Buster is the only funny note, along with the ending.

To love a good book
I enjoyed a few other book by this author featuring Patricia Fisher, so thought I would give this book ago. Glad I did because although slightly different I enjoyed it. It is only different because although still a very good mystery, it is whimsical in the fact that the main character Felicity can talk and understand her pets. I would have liked to have known why or how she can but in the end it didn't matter and didn't effect the enjoyment. The mystery was interesting, I had guessed who the killer was but that was more because everybody else had already been accused. I liked the characters, especially the niece and her ninja skills and the talking pets certainly added humour and funny situations for the main character to find herself in. I look forward to the next book.
Felicity is over seeing a rushed wedding for a friends daughter. The brides father is gravely ill and she wants him to walk her down the aisle before he dies. But the Wedding planning comes to a crashing halt when someone pushes the father off the balcony and the man last seen arguing with him dies in a car crash. The police suspect Felicity as the last silent business partner of the company of trying to kill off her partners. The only way to stay out of jail is to turn amateur sleuth and work out what is going on. Aided by her secret weapons, a ragdoll cat with an attitude problem, a bulldog with a hero complex and her niece who is a secret ninja in training they might just have to break a few rules to get to the bottom of this case and make sure the Wedding stays on track.
I liked the narrator. She sounded very English, which took a bit of getting use to because most narrator's are American but she was very good.

a lovely new cozy novel from the Steve Higgs world
if you are looking for cozy mysteries featuring plucky mature women with touches of humor and esp if you love dogs and cats Steve Higgs has hit it out of the park again with this new series. He write several different series featuring a different 'lead' but they all live in same area so some characters you meet in the other series. this one is a spin-off from a story in a Patricia Fisher mystery. it's fun to recognize characters I love in the other series...like old friends.
the narrator does an excellent job of bringing the story and ppl to life.

Seriously???
Felicity Philips is a wedding planner who is in her 50's and whose life is as plain and normal as possible, with the possible exception of her being rather ambitious. All of sudden she decides to investigate a murder. Now Felicity is breaking the law right and left, stealing things, breaking and entering, and other unlawful mischief. She goes against everyone's advice, including her own, to put herself in harm's way. I found it so unlikely that an ambitious wedding planner with a reputation to uphold would get involved in the situations described in the book that I couldn't even finish the story - a rarity for me. The best part of the book was "Adventure Dog." I love mysteries, and I especially love mysteries that involve dogs, and so I'm sorry to give this such a low rating. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
