Summary

The eighth gripping adventure in David Gilman's critically acclaimed Master of War series set in fourteenth-century Europe.

Bordeaux, 1367. Having angered the bloodthirsty Don Pedro, King of Castile, Sir Thomas Blackstone is thoroughly sick of his mission for the Prince of Wales, but must remain true to his oath.

But this is the Hundred Years' War, and tensions are rising once more. With the Prince of Wales deeply unpopular in his Aquitainian lands, Blackstone, King Edward's Master of War, must return to French soil to help stem the tide of support for the King of France.

Meanwhile, Henry, Blackstone's son, faces an incognito ride across France with his own motley band of outlaws and mercenaries. But the French are aware of the younger Blackstone's journey, and see a perfect way to target the Master of War.

David Gilman is a Master of Storytelling

This is the eighth book in the excellent “Master of War” series by David Gilman. I cannot recommend this series enough. Each book is a thrilling, mediæval, action packed adventure from start to finish.

As with every book in this series, I get totally immersed in the story and the characters. I love the way that we get to try and understand Thomas Blackstone and his friends & fighting companions throughout the years - their gritty battles, betrayals, their injuries, personal loves & losses and of course more than anything their courage, humour and never ending loyalty.

These books are so well written and researched and contain storytelling at its best and make David Gilman a Master too. I sincerely hope there will be more adventures for Sir Thomas, Sir Gilbert, Henry, John, Will et al …..

This book is narrated by the superb Colin Mace.

Always left wanting more

It took a while to think where we were and to catch up, but once all the familiar characters and the continuing theme were re-established in my head I was away with Sir Thomas and his men. Brilliant stuff as always. There're only a few books, stories, characters and authors that leave you wanting for more, and the Kings Master of War is one of them. I can't wait until the next thrilling installment.
