Herman Bangs roman "Tine" handler om den katastrofale krig i 1864 set gennem et par følsomme, glade og ulykkelige pigeøjne. Herman Bang (1857-1912) var en dansk kritiker, forfatter og journalist. I 1880 brød han igennem med romanen "Håbløse slægter", og siden blev det til en lang række værker inden for forskellige genrer. Herman Bang er kendt for sin impressionistiske skrivestil og var en af hovedkræfterne bag Det moderne gennembrud i dansk litteratur.
