Summary
From The Sunday Times best-selling author.
Thrown Away Child is a memoir covering Louise Allen’s abusive childhood in a foster home, how she survived - using her love of art as a sanctuary - and how she hopes to right old wrongs now by fostering children herself and campaigning for the improvement of foster care services. It is a compelling and inspirational story. This book gives a voice to the many children who grew up unhappily in care.

brilliantly written
I think Sarah is my new favourite narrator, the book was very sad, I won't get into it as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I love listening to audios on walks and when I'm driving, I think this, for me has been the book that has encouraged me to go out and walk more, just so I can finish it, I was completely gripped from start to finish much love to the author Louise Allen ❤

A honest gritty and harrowing story of abuse in all its forms. ultimately a story of strength, understanding and in some ways forgiveness.

The strength to survive
I am not sure i could show the compassion louise did towards her foster mother later on but was glad she was able to walk away at the end, with her head and heart at peace. No children should live through...if they survive...the painful abuse as Louise has but it reminds us of the amazing strength children somehow find in saving themselves, too often by themselves. Thank-you for sharing your story, Louise....

A very....
heart wrenching story with some difficult parts within it, but I'm glad she's happy now. The narrator was very good at using different voices for the characters.

How do you add a title to an abuse story.
This was a very moving story and the latter years with mother (not to give anything away) were inspiring in how It continued to the end
As a foster carer myself found this an incredible story.

Wow!
This was definitely a difficult “read.” I listened to it in a day and was sobbing in the end. I am so, so, so sad for the Williams and Louises and young Barbaras out there. I have never understood the cycle of abuse. (I know it’s real - just don’t understand it.) it seems someone who knows how it feels could never repeat it. Anyway, I’m very happy that Louise eventually found happiness. I hope William did too. And I hope Kevin turned his life around and that Tim is happy today.

Mixed feelings
Book was extremely hard to listen to because of the content. Almost stopped several times but wanted to hear how she survived this horrible abuse. She was a very courageous child and it's by the grace of God she survived.

She had my attention from the beginning
I am so sorry things like this happen to children. This book is an eye opening book about how bad a child’s life can be. I wish I could scoop up every single unwanted, abandoned and abused child and love them and take care of them.
Thank you for sharing your story with us.

Heart capturing
I listened to it over a weeks time. Only because being a foster parent and now having one of them as my own I struggled emotionally. The book was capturing and emotional. A honest book I can't imagine writing. It is really sad how the anger or neglect from one time in our life spills into another time punishing the innocent . Amazing reality check, thank you for sharing!

Foster and Adoption
Such a sad story. as the foster/adoptive mom of 2, I can tell you it is hard, but so worth it when you see a beautiful outcome. One of ours is thriving, while the other struggles daily. Hearing other stories like my girls, breaks my heart, yet helps me to be have better understanding. Thank you for writing and sharing your story.
