Summary
Booker shortlisted author Jill Paton Walsh introduces us to popular detective Imogen Quy.
The locked library of St Agatha's College, Cambridge, houses an unrivalled and, according to certain scholars, deeply uninteresting collection of 17th-century volumes.
It also contains one dead student.
Tragic and accidental, of course, even if malicious gossip hints that Philip Skellow had been engaged in stealing books rather than acquiring knowledge when he'd slipped, banged his head, and bled to death overnight.

A great lesson to us all
I liked the reasonings and the descriptions and the people. I felt sorry for the victim and angry at the plotting and closed ranks. A great listen.

A bit too cosy
All rather gentle, with not a great deal going on. Not for me. The reader did fine, only a few mispronunciations, but was not particularly inspiring.

spoiled by narrator
the story was narrated with all the earnestness of a head girl. The narrator embued every male voice with a speech impediment , high-pitched querulousness, or an unconvincing regional accent. it was irritating and distracting

long awaited
I was delighted to see this much loved series on Audible. My only concern was that the reader wouldn't do the books justice - I needn't have worried, she was excellent.

New discovery
Having read and listened to Jill Paton Walsh’s collaborations with Dorothy L Sayers on the Whimsy books, I felt emboldened to try one of her own works. I am so glad I did! She did not disappoint and I now have the Isobel Quy books to savour. Looking forward to a good rich series.

Cosy Cambridge Conundrum
Really easy to get into the mood of the story, a likeable protagonist, lots of engaging mental arithmetics. Lots of cosy, aspirational lifestyle to counterbalance the gruesome ongoings. from the performer, an impressive range of accents that convinced this non-native speaker at least. It would have been nice if she had double checked the pronunciation of some Cambridge words like "Magdalene" ("Maudlin") or E.M. Forsters "Maurice" ("Morris"). All in all a great escape to my home town.
