Roald Dahl turns his pen to anything, twisting everyday life into powerful, and sometimes terrifying fantasies. Seven superb stories, full of Roald Dahl's usual magic, mystery and suspense: meet the boy who can talk to animals, the man who can see with his eyes closed, and find out about the treasure, buried deep underground on Thistley Green.

Almost perfect. Just two disappointments
1. The stories are genius, and Roald Dahl's writing is ridiculously good. Worth reading again even if you've read them before.
2. Andrew Scott was fantastic, and especially in Hitchhiker and Swan, he was flawless. Sadly his Indian accent was weak, and he started off in Henry Sugar sounding Caribbean, and ended up sounding Middle Eastern. He's still an excellent narrator.
3. Why does Audible not give the names of the stories anywhere? Not in the description of the book, not anywhere else. That's silly - I had to buy it on faith that they're stories I would want to read. For the record, the stories included in this edition (with the chapter numbers, for ease of finding) are:
1: Boy who spoke to animals
2: The hitchhiker
3: The Mildenhall Treasure
4: The Swan
5-18: Henry Sugar
19: Lucky break
20: A piece of cake

Enjoyable but not top class Dahl
If you could sum up The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More in three words, what would they be?
Amusing, magical, slight
Would you recommend The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More to your friends? Why or why not?
If you enjoy Dahl you will certainly enjoy this book though it is not in the same class as his best works (Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG etc)
Have you listened to any of Andrew Scott’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have never come across audiobooks in which he features but am familiar with him from television. His performance here is excellent.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There is a good range of stories from the autobiographical to the magical. What makes this book worth listening to is the excellent narrator.

Great Narrator But Dark Material
I knew Dahl could write dark things and im sure if I had read more about this book i would have been prepared or avoided. The sample is very enticing and indeed it isnt excellently read. However I didnt enjoy a good portion of the stories and the swan story we (me and my wife) stopped listening to.
Certainly not appropriate for children.

Fantastic in every way
Roald Dahl is a genius! The stories are beautifully written - the attention to detail, the humour, the simple cleverness are amazing. Also really enjoyed his non fiction and the story of how he became a writer. Then to top it, narrated by Andrew Scott. What a perfect match. His nuance, his accents, the perfect pause and reflection of his delivery. I could listen to him all day. Simply wonderful.

Mediocre Stories With a Good Narrator
Perhaps the stories have some literary value but I expected better from Ronald Dahl. They just leave you wanting more and either seem to end unexpectedly boring or unresolved.
You invest in mediocre stories expecting a clever finish which doesn’t materialise.
Pleasure listening to Andrew Scott however, he’s accents perhaps need a little work here and there but nevertheless has done a fine job.
