Summary

Multi-award-winning historical thriller writer S. G. MacLean returns to her 17th-century heartland. Charles II has been restored to the throne. A list of men who supported Cromwell must be hunted down to face a terrible traitor's death. On that list is the name of Damian Seeker.

By the summer of 1660 the last remnants of the Republic have been swept away and the Stuarts have been restored under their king, Charles II. A list of forty-nine regicides believed to be involved in the death of Charles I is drawn up. Executions of the regicides begin to take place and the hunt intensifies for those who have gone into hiding or have fled.

Although not a regicide, staunch Republican Damian Seeker is on a list of traitors to the king. Royalist spy Lady Anne Winter is employed to find evidence of guilt or innocence among the names on this Winter List. Seeker has fled but his beloved daughter Manon remains in England, married to lawyer Lawrence Ingolby, and living in York. As the conduit to her father and to others on the Winter List and surrounded by spies and watchers, Manon lives in constant danger and fear of discovery.

So Enjoyable

First Seeker, but not the first for this Author. Will now go back and listen to all the other Seeker’s while I wait to hear what happens next. Simply riveting.

Excellent story, but missed Seeker

It was an excellent story with well known characters from previous books, but the abscence of Seeker was a bit of a let down. Excellent performance.

Super characters and plot

The interaction between the characters was excellent. The plot left you feeling very tense and apprehensive.
Very enjoyable even without Damian.

Can't wait to hear more about Seeker!

I enjoyed spending more time with Lady Anne and her new and very formidable Scottish sidekick but I kept expecting the narrative to switch to Boston, Mass! Looking forward to the next in the series and I think I'll enjoy re-listening to this now I know what to expect.

i Loved every minute and dislikrd nothing. S G MacLean does it again..Wonderful. Narrated brilliantly....again....and a twist in the end I honestly never saw coming and yet entirely plausible. well rounded likeable characters . i just love these books.

Intriguing, well-written and plotted but ...

I love all Shona Maclean's books. They are elegantly crafted and effortlessly hold your attention but I did feel that something was missing from The Winter List. Only in the Epilogue, the strongest part of the book, did I realise what it was. It wasn't uncommon for colonists to return home in the 16th century. Let's hope Damian Seeker can, too. Jonathan Keeble's narration, by the way, is superb.

Another winner!

Outstanding! You should know that Seeker only shows up in the epilogue and yet this is every bit as good as the preceding books in the series. You’ll probably want to clear eight or so hours because once you start you won’t want to stop

Great

Yes, more of Seeker and Maria would have been pleasant, but ‘Bear Pit’ was heavily drawn from the Ingleby/Sir Thomas past and present dynamic, so that seeing this taken up here -and in Yorkshire - was expected and it worked. Winter here not as complex a character as previous drawn but……I suspect that may be a device for later writing. Griselda and Ogilvie denouement was very moving. Nice narration as ever although some odd ‘highlands’ variations!
