Summary
France, 1928. It is ten years since the Great War ended, but Freddie Watson is still haunted by the loss of his beloved brother. Driving through the foothills of the Pyrenees, his car spins off the road in a snowstorm. He takes refuge in an isolated village and there meets the captivating Fabrissa. They spend the night talking of love and loss and war.
By daybreak, Fabrissa has vanished and Freddie has discovered that he alone holds the key to an ancient mystery, one which leads him deep into the mountains and to a cave that conceals a shocking secret . . .
'A wonderfully haunting winter's tale. Stop the clock and read it in one sitting' She
'A great read . . . Mosse writes movingly about loss and atmospherically about France' Daily Mail

Winter Ghosts - absorbing!
This was a curious read, interesting and absorbing, it was like being transported in time. I recommend it if you would like something a little different.

A good story
I thought this book addressed many things, grief and a longing to be loved by the ones who we are closest to. The main character is haunted by his grief and horrors of war and what war leaves behind.
I enjoyed learning about the history and incredible the 1300, wow! Good listen.

Beautiful story
I've read this before so knew the story and knew I loved it. The story makes you think about grief and lose and how it is a timeless set of emotions which all are touched by regardless of time or faith.
Shame about the unnecessary music though, I found it distracting and detracted from the narration which was excellent. It felt more like listening to a radio play that to a book.
Still enjoyed it and will likely listen to it again.

Winter Ghost
Loved this story and liked the narration but it was lapsing into being too quiet and hard to hear at times.

Intrigue kept me going!
A little slow initially but intrigue was built and kept in listening to the very end!

excellent reader
I gave this review 3 out of 5 stars only because if you've read Kate Mosse's Sepulchre and Labyrinth, you know the formula for this book. If you're a fan--it's worth the read. I was disappointed that the book was so short--pretty much a glorified short story. The reader, however, does an INCREDIBLE job and really brings the story to life. Definitely worth an Audible credit, I just wish the book was longer.

Lovely story
I found this a lovely story of a gentle man altered by grief in a very believable way. It was well read and successfully immersed me in the life of the story. I look forward to listening to it again.

Just a bit boring!
The main character is not very interesting! It makes the narrative hard going and makes the story hard work. I really couldn't care less what happens to him and his ridiculous obsession with Fabrissa grates pretty quickly.
Sorry - the story just went on a bit too long for me.

Just loved this narrator. A sensitive and unusual story which touches the heart.
The musical touch was gorgeous.
