Summary

From the author of The Woman Before comes another gripping psychological thriller…

…with an epic twist, set in the Swedish wilderness!

I release myself from the shackles of the outside world and embrace the wilderness within.

As Bella drops her son off at university, she’s devastated. It’s been the two of them ever since Asher was born. The only thing helping her through is the upcoming week-long wilderness retreat in Sweden. It’ll be her chance to reconnect and recharge.

At the retreat, Bella basks in the beauty of the modern lodge, with its luxury rooms and picture-perfect views, the glistening lake and lush forest. For the full detox effect, everyone must surrender their phones.

The holiday seems idyllic until the person who ruined Bella’s life years ago arrives, threatening everything she’s worked hard for and will do anything to protect. Suddenly, a terrified Bella is trapped in the wild, knowing someone wants her dead…

From the author of The Woman Before comes a gripping psychological thriller about a blissful holiday that turns into a nightmare, perfect for fans of Sarah Pearse and Lucy Clarke.

The wilderness retreat

Narrator: Emma Vane

3.5 rounded up to 4stars.
I did enjoy this story, set in a wilderness retreat but I did find it a little long getting to the actual plot of what was going on. Lots of dialogue from the main character which was a fair bit of just repeating herself really and it does jump between past and present which was a bit confusing to start with (I had to re-read bits thinking I’d missed something at first)
Overall it’s a good story nothing edge if the seat but enjoyable none the less.

Narration was good which helped with the overall enjoyment.

great thriller - gripping end

A group of strangers meet at a retreat in Sweden aimed at recharging batteries and finding focus.
Bella's sister surprised her with a stay at the retreat for her birthday. It is supposed to be a relaxing way of taking her mind off the fact that her precious son has just left home.
But mysterious scratchings at the wall, notes under the door, and a blast from the past she'd rather forget make this particular holiday anything but relaxing.

Is Bella right to feel anxious and afraid of her fellow guests?

This book is Jennifer Moore's second dip into psychological thriller territory. It is cleverly plotted with an interesting cast of characters and a setting that made me very glad I hadn't been a guest at the wilderness retreat.
The twist in the tail when it came was unexpected and very well thought out, just as I love when I reach the climax of a great thriller novel.
