Summary

You’ll NEVER see this twist coming! Their lives seem golden, but they’re hiding some very dark secrets....

Joanna and Leo seem to have the perfect relationship. Two adorable children, a beautiful house in a chic area of Connecticut – they have the kind of life people envy.

Then Piper moves to town. Piper is young, attractive, flirtatious. It’s almost no wonder Leo is tempted away....

Devastated, Joanna starts digging into Piper’s past, and discovers some very disturbing secrets – not least that Piper’s previous two husbands ended up dead. But Piper dismisses Joanna’s fears for her family as paranoia. Who is telling the truth? Joanna? Piper? The only certainty in this web of lies is that no one is who they appear to be...and no one will escape unscathed.

Enjoyable

This was a decent thriller with plot that developed over just the right pace. Having read The Last Mrs Parrish, I thought the blurb offered a very similar story but in fact it takes off in a different direction. One has to decide which character is the one with whom we’re supposed to have sympathy and as the book develops it becomes harder to fathom. The ending was actually quite interesting - aside from a very final “twist” that I thought silly but which doesn’t spoil the main ending.

The thing that stops me giving it five stars is the poor character development beyond the two females. Leo was a two dimensional cut-out devoid of personality. The children remained only half drawn.

Well narrated - I really rate Julia Whelan, who is able to give each character a voice that avoids confusion yet didn’t descend into farce.

Bit boring!

Not as interesting or gripping as The Next Mrs Parish- most of the book seemed to have unnecessary day to day narrative which didn’t seem to go anywhere. Wasn’t keen on either protagonist. Felt like there wasn’t a lot of story until the final three chapters!

Ok

Just another tale of everyday, delusional, neurotic rich folks! Not the authors best work but filled a few hours. I did understand what was happening and I DID see the “twist” coming!

Loving Liv Contantines Stories!!!!
This story had me hooked and intrigued from the first sentence.
I love the style of writing, telling the story from both the main characters .. this for me draws me in as a reader/listener and keeps me hooked.
Will most definitely be recommending the Author and her stories.

I wouldn’t waste my time on this book…

A very dull, poorly written story. The characters were underdeveloped and difficult to invest in. The plot was quite chaotic with dialogue that was very robotic and unrealistic. I couldn’t wait to get it finished in the end as it was a chore to listen to.

Don’t waste your time…

After reading the Last Mrs Parish, I was really looking forward to anything new by the same author. However, this book feels a little like it has been churned out on the back of the success of her previous book, with very little thought or consideration given to the plot.

Yes, there’s a small twist right at the very end but it feels incredibly clumsy and a bit out of thin air which makes it feel incredibly disappointing.

Don’t waste your time with this - plenty of other books to give your time to.
