About this listen

They called her the Swedish Maiden: the beautiful young tourist who disappeared on a hot summer's day somewhere in North Oxford. Twelve months later, the case remained unsolved, pending further developments.

On holiday in Lyme Regis, Chief Inspector Morse is startled to read a tantalizing article in The Times about the missing woman - an article which lures him back to Wytham Woods near Oxford...and straight into the most extraordinary murder investigation of his career.

Critic reviews

"Honest detection, illicit sex, puns and anagrams galore, Morse's trademark drinking and dour byplay with colleagues and suspects, plus a plot as agile as Dexter's best - in short, everything you could possibly want in an English detective story. Bolt the door and enjoy." ( Kirkus Reviews)

Editing is hopeless

The story is excellent. Abridged well so it still makes perfect sense. The performance by a cast member from the TV series is an excellent touch. I would recommend it based on these things. However one thing let's it all down... as with all these Morse recordings (I bought them all) the editing is hopeless, regularly cutting off scenes in mid sentence. Unbelievably in this one the last sentence of the recording cuts off just before it is finished. Did no one listen to this before they put it out for sale? Or did they listen, but just didn't care?

Cuts off before the end.

I've decided that Colin Dexters writing is rather immature and childlike, thank goodness the script writers did a better job on the screen plays. Morse, the programme is excellent, but Colin Dexters books are not.
