About this listen
Wars change, warriors don't.
We are all warriors. Each of us struggles every day to define and defend our sense of purpose and integrity, to justify our existence on the planet, and to understand, if only within our own hearts, who we are and in what we believe.
Do we fight by a code? If so, what is it? What is the warrior ethos? From where did it come? What form does it take today? How do we (and how can we) use it and be true to it in our internal and external lives?
The Warrior Ethos is intended not only for men and women in uniform, but artists, entrepreneurs, and other warriors in other walks of life. The audiobook examines the evolution of the warrior code of honor and "mental toughness". It goes back to the ancient Spartans and Athenians, to Caesar's Romans, Alexander's Macedonians, and the Persians of Cyrus the Great (not excluding the Garden of Eden and the primitive hunting band).
Sources include Herodotus, Thucydides, Plutarch, Xenophon, Vegetius, Arrian, and Curtius - and on down to Gen. George Patton, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, and Israeli Minister of Defense Moshe Dayan.

Great lessons in here
Need to read this book over and over again. Some serious lessons to be learnt from the warrior thinking and life. I love that Steven draws lessons from historical examples

worth a listen.
good to hear Steven read some of his own work and obvious there is an heavy Greco/Macedon feeling about the book which can still be used for modern situations.

Airbrushed
I am a huge huge fan of the author and wish I could say I loved the book more. Clearly it was intended for a specific audience namely the US military. However, those of us somewhat familiar with their history may find this book airbrushed. I do not doubt the sincerity of the author's desire to inspire his audience particularly his US audience, and though indeed I have gained some pearls of wisdom that I will reflect upon, I wish he had just stuck with the history of the ancients. Or rewritten it for a broader audience.

Fairly interesting.
An in depth dive into what makes a warrior, exploring those from the past and present.
Short and informative, but not gripping.
