Summary

At the age of 30, Robin is an Earl at last - but not the Earl of Waringham, the ancestral title that he still hopes to win back one day from the evil Mortimer.

England has seen other changes too: Edward III is dead and his successor, the boy king Richard II, is at odds with his uncle, the Duke of Lancaster. The introduction of a hated new poll tax brings about one of the most dangerous episodes in English history and Robin finds himself embroiled in the Peasants’ Revolt.

As the years pass, his old enemies continue to move against him and with the stability of England under increasing threat from an unpredictable and incompetent King, Robin finally joins forces with Lancaster and his son, Henry, in a revolution which aims to secure the nation’s future. And as he finds himself helplessly in love with the wife of his oldest and most implacable enemy, the stage is set for Robin’s final showdown with Mortimer.

In the third instalment of a six-part epic, Medieval Europe is brought to life in a multi-cast drama based on the novels by Rebecca Gable, author of the Scarlet City trilogy.

Featuring: Tom Alexander, Gareth Armstrong, Maxim Baldry, Tim Bentinck, Nick Brimble, Charlie Condou, Clare Corbett, Raymond Coulthard, Gareth David-Lloyd, Jacob Dudman, Richard Earl, Barnaby Edwards, Jonathan Firth, Genevieve Gaunt, Raj Ghatak, Helen Goldwyn, Derek Griffiths, Jonny Hibbs, Edward Holtom, Will Howard, Anthony Howell, Joe Jameson, Mack Keith-Roach, Rosalyn Landor, Chris Lew Kum Hoi, Damian Lynch, Michael Maloney, Miriam Margolyes, Leith McAllister, Glen McCready, Harry Mead, Tony Millan, Darin Nagada, George Naylor, Nicholas Pegg, David Seddon, Sam Stafford, Dan Starkey, Joseph Timms, Alexander Vlahos, Lizzie Waterworth-Santo, Finty Williams, Gabby Wong and Becky Wright.

Chapters are wrong

The second chapter is actually the first chapter, not sure which chapter position the first one should be in

Fantastic story - lousy Audible

Like the Scarlet City series before, these books and the Audible productions are fantastic. However, for an unexplained reason, Amazon/Audible have not produced the remaining books in the series. I like many others pre-ordered the next 2 books, only to be told the day before release (after already being delayed a year), that they were being postponed indefinitely. I feel really let down having invested so much time in these stories. At the very least they could release them in book form.

Chapter 1 should be at the end of part 1

A great story as per the first two, but I also have to point out that in part 1 the first chapter should be the last one, as several reviews have already mentioned. Hopefully somebody can tweak this for future purchasers. If not and chapter 1 starts off "Robin had completely lost track of the days" skip to chapter 2 and come back to chapter 1 at the end of part 1.

edit problem

I am enjoying this series and had preordered and waited for this volume so it was rather disappointing to receive a spoiler at the beginning. If, like me, you have never been a person who skips ahead or reads the ending first make sure you forward onto the true beginning

Superb historic novel and series

Against a highly accurate historical background we continue to follow Robin of Waringham through the tempestuous times of the 14th Century. Excellent narration and dramatic performances support this exciting story. A great listen!

Volume 3 is as far as I'm going.

I very much enjoyed the first in this series, I found the main characters interesting and engaging. It moved along at a good pace with revenge and intrigue, people overcoming adversity etc etc.

Thus I bought the second in the series; again I enjoyed it and followed the fortunes gained and lost by our hero and his enemies. It still held my interest and I wanted to know how people fared and their lives developed.

So came to book 3. I waned at several points in this one; it was just more of the same, same battles and misfortunes. Nothing really changed and nobody moved forward, apart from a few deaths. Same plot with different names, it became rather tedious, so that’s where I will leave Robin and his family.

I find the series gripping. I've read so much about the Plantagenet dynasty. for me this is one of the best series written that I have read on the subject.

Unbelievable good !!!

I’m addicted and craving for more. Fascinating Family story with great characters. The historical background is very informative and I could imagine how it was living in this medieval times.
The mix of storytelling and play is very well done.
Can’t wait for the next Waringham chronicles in English.

Great Series, Great Stand Alone

so far I've found this series to be highly entertaining. The books are sequential but each one has it's own well developed plot, great suspense and a satisfying ending. The author is so good at putting her characters in impossibly difficult situations but not leaving them there indefinitely. The solutions are perfectly organic but surprising, creative and unpredictable. Moving on to the next book and I'm confident I won't be disappointed.

Volume 3

Have enjoyed every minute of the Waringham Chronicles. Takes my mind off the terrible things going on in our world today. The cast is superb. Can’t wait until November for next book. My family ancestry can be traced back to the Plantagenets of English royalty so I am mesmerized.

In my most favorite book (all volumes) category

I love that the author has stayed true to the history. I love how the characters are so vivid and alive. The whole production is awesome. It could easily be a movie. Though I enjoy the audible book and the actors and narrators. They are exceptional. It brought this history of the Black Prince, King Richard II, John Guant and King Henry IV (Bolingbroke) to where you feel you are right there. This is an exceptional book. Also I am very appreciative that she has brought the women of the times into the story!!! Will and have recommended this book.
