Like a lot of people I know this story inside out and can probably quote bits. Derek Jacobi tells it very well; giving it his own interpretation without imposing on the original.

This is the 5th great tale of Narnia continuing the story of Edmund, Lucy and King Caspian. Also it introduces Eustace.

Contrary to the other books, this almost felt like an anthology of stories rolled into one book. Eustace was rather frustrating, and his ‘redemption’ seemed sort of underserved? I would’ve liked to have seen him come to a conclusion after witnessing how his behaviour made others feel, not just because of his own ‘downfall’

But it was a good read, with brilliant pacing and still managed to make me emotional at the end. Lucy and Edmund were great as they were in the previous book, and although I understand why Susan and Peter weren’t present, it certainly felt a little empty without them.

Also Reepicheep is really annoying. I said what I said.

The book itself is brilliant. It's the perfect family book to settle down with and you can listen to whenever. The narration was brilliant, not the voice you would expect for a C.S.Lewis but Derek Jacobi does a fantastic job of putting it into context and bringing the characters voices to life. Would definitely recommend it.

We preferred this over the dramatised version. Derek Jacobi does a great job but Reepacheep is very shrill!

in the last 3 days I've watched the film and listened to the book. Derek Jacobi may not have a vocal range to match the effects in the film, but he succeeds in bringing the whole of what CS Lewis wrote to life.

For parents wanting to introduce their children to the world of Narnia this series is perfect. My son isn't quite 4 but every night he asks for the stories to play.

The first thing to pay tribute to here is the wonderful way that this Narnia series is entrusted to so established and excellent a company of performers - here in Derek Jacobi. They each impart something special and here it a sure voice, warmth, highlighting surprises and situations. The novel shows C S Lewis ever able to ring the changes. For those brought up with the The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe may feel some disappointment that the four Pevensie children do not all reappear, but reserve judgement - do. You will not be disappointed. The opening paragraph is a joy, and humour continues along the course of this tale. There is allegorical happenings and Aslan proves his enduring worth. Alongside this is the mouse, Reepicheep, with the heart of a lion and an glowing, unflinching faith. This audiobook is excellently produced and I liked the short, occasional insertions of music. I am so pleased to make my way through this series; it never disappoints, but pleases, gives enjoyment and makes one think. This audiobook is thorouhgly recommended.
