Summary

In The Voice of Knowledge, don Miguel Ruiz reminds us of a profound and simple truth: The only way to end our emotional suffering and restore our joy in living is to stop believing in lies, mainly about ourselves.

Before we learn to speak, our true nature is to love and be happy, to explore and enjoy life. As little children, we are completely authentic. Our actions are guided by instinct and emotions, we listen to the silent "voice of our integrity". Once we learn to speak, the people around us hook our attention and program us with knowledge. The "voice of knowledge" comes alive inside our head, and what is that voice telling us? Mostly lies. That voice never stops talking, judging, gossiping, and abusing us. It constantly sabotages our happiness and keeps us from enjoying a reality of truth and love.

Ruiz shows us how to recover the silent voice of our integrity and find inner peace. When the voice of knowledge no longer controls us, our life becomes an expression of our authentic self, just as it was before we learned to speak. Then we return to the truth, we return to love, and we live in happiness again.

Only one point and not a new one but a good one

If you find other Buddhist or Yogic presentations hard to hear and a South American/Christian presentation might work for you then maybe this would stand out amongst other similar titles for you. It’s short and sweet, he only really has one thing to say but to be fair it is probably the most important out of the several different pieces of advice you’d get in a longer book. For me, I’d recommend Michael Singer over this one, starting with The Untethered Soul but all his stuff is great if you can deal with his style (that book is not read in the author’s voice, which can take some getting used to, so that’s why I’d recommend that one first). For those who prefer Christian stuff also check out Anthony De Mello.

Outstanding

As a follower of the Three Principles. I found it Amazing these words of wisdom originate as far back as the 10th century such a simple philosophies that we all need to follow in this very hectic modern world. The Author almost has a Hypnotic tone to his voice .!! Which helps the chapters resonate even more.

lovely but abridged

I loved the other Don Miguel Ruiz audios and they are transforming me... but I would not have ordered this one had I realized it was abridged. The others are not, so I didn't even check. With that said, I still gleaned a lot from the book but wanted to mention the abridgement in case that is important to other potential listeners.

You will feel much more in touch with your real 'Self' after listening to Toltec wisdom.

change the story!

Change the story in your head and stop believing all the lies you have told yourself, and other people have told you. Believe in light and love and kindness; pray to be shown the way. A very inspirational book!!!

A new way to see yourself and others

This is a beautiful and gentle way of seeing others and yourself in a much more compassionate way. Knowing that everything we are programmed with is just a habit that has been deeply entrenched over the millenia. The beauty about a habit is that it's changeable when you do another behaviour instead.

Anger management

This audio seems geared toward an anger management class or addiction recovery. The author provides a masculine paradigm to explain problems with emotions and self-esteem, offering a face-saving explanation to people (men?) without a spiritual compass. Excellent for its purpose but not challenging for those who have read a lot of self-help/spiritual texts.

Unfortunate

This is Carlos Castaneda's material, super condensed, with all the mysticism and fantasy stripped away only to be replaced with a bigger load of crap -- "Christianity." I misled myself with false hope and expectations into thinking that author was just using Christianity as a comparison until the last few sentences when it was clear that this work, and the author's ideology, are just platforms for proselytizing the biggest money making scam in history. The last word in this book, "amen," serves as fitting punctuation like the stench from the back of a passing garbage truck. Aside from the parts about "just believe it's true because you can feel it," the book actually has some excellent principles and ideas in it. Again, it is unfortunate that the author took a good idea and used it to promote a self-serving deceptive agenda.

why did I waited so long!!!

I was advised by a dear friend to read the Four agreements about 5 years ago. after listening/reading the four agreements. I knew I had to read all Ruiz books. They have healing powers. I have being going through a great deal of different levels of anxiety ,depression with love ones also with every day challenges that life as to offer. throughout this journey I lost my faith in God,in my self. I couldn't understand what was happening. One day after trying to make sense of the pain, the anxiety ,sleeplessness night . I remember the voice in my head said "read the 4 agreement " okay! I am thinking to myself why not! I can do better I will listen to it! that's much better. My hands are always in someone's hair. So I start to listen it and i have applied those words and advice to my daily life. I have been free from all the emotional toxins ,wheather it was from someone else or self inflicted and all the domesticated habits ,the lies my father told me as a little girl, the sexual abuse from family members, I mean endless and ongoing pain after pain years after years now I am free ! free to be me free to love without judging . No one says it was going to be easy but I have found myself. the Voice of knowledge was the icing on the cake !!! can't wait to read all Ruiz book! I am in love again!!!!

This resonated with me

I found the first chapter to be kind of a strugle but it definitely got better from there.

The author's metaphore is simple and altruistic.

I liked his view of the "Truth" and "lies" and found it refreshing and simple way of dealing with one's self and surroundings.

I hope I can silence the "lies" as he puts it.

Easily worth the time and money for me.
