About this listen

She sits on the headstone, claws flexing, wings furled, as she has for almost four centuries.

The people of Byre live in fear. A centuries-old evil that grows stronger with each human sacrifice threatens their village. If all goes according to her plan, the Village Witch will unleash almost 400 years of resentment, hatred and homicidal rage on the town.

Tim Galton, an ex-special forces soldier, Professor Alexander Hall, and his daughter Susan, paranormal investigators, and a few, brave villagers are all that stand in her way. Can they prevent the Village Witch from setting the evil free? Or will it destroy them and everyone else in Byre?

I really liked the story. It was well written and I could easily picture what was going on in my head almost like watching a film. The characters were well drawn and varied and there were some super twists and turns in the plot. The life of the small village is described really accurately and I smiled wryly at various points thinking of my own home location even though it is miles away from where Byre is supposed to be. Villages are the same everywhere!

I did, however, have to increase the listening speed to 1.2. I know the narrator is a professional and has a repertoire of several voices that he uses for different books. But... on normal speed, I felt like a kid sitting in assembly listening to my old
ex-coal miner Headteacher reading us a story! He just had that tone of voice which droned on a bit and I found it distracting. His voices for different characters were effective.

So, if you like horror and supernatural supense then you will enjoy this. Some genuinely creepy moments.

Suspense. Gore. Witches!

I enjoyed the creepy side of this story, the characters were good & I liked the 3 main people who band together to fight the evil that is building up.
Some really nasty characters on the side of evil meant the story built up nicely.
The watching and waiting for her turn to come back and the 400 year old evil was calculated well by the narrator.
Enjoyable
