Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
The game-changing young adult thriller that defies space and time, soon to be a major Netflix movie starring Oscar-nominated Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Black Panther).
2020: Close to getting expelled and caught up in a deadly feud, the tensions surrounding Esso seem to be leading to a single moment in a Peckham alleyway that could shatter his future.
2035: Stripped of everything, football prodigy Rhia has just one thing left on her mind - figuring out how to avert a bullet that was fired 15 years in the past.
Everything changes when Esso gains access to a mysterious world where he can see glimpses of the past and future, and when Rhia starts understanding the physics of it. The two must work together to master the secrets of the Upper World and seize control of their own destinies before it's too late.

Confusing at some times but great
Sometimes especially at the start I didn’t understand the 2 people’s 1st person chapters but as the story moved I got it. *spoiler* at the end it was pretty hard too when Esso as a teen and adult were talking too each other.

Physics in a time-travel narrative
I have to admit, I probably should have read this on paper/e-book. I found the Audible version hard to concentrate on, both with time periods and names but also the physics got the better of me and my mind wandered a bit. I have enjoyed Andy Weir's titles with science caught up in the stories, but this felt more like a science lesson with time-travel ideas pushed into it.
Two time periods. In one, a young man is caught up in a gang incident where someone is shot. In the other, a teenage girl with no parents looks for answers.
I didn't click about a lot of the connections between the two periods for quite a while, probably because I missed details in the audiobook version. For me, this would have been easier to follow on paper, where I could have gone back and re-read sections.
Rhia seemed to catch on to the science remarkably quickly and easily. I was lost.
I don't think this was for me really, I persisted but didn't really enjoy it. I can see why many do, and I did feel the language of the characters was realistic and do hope it sparks an interest in the sciences.
I believe this is being adapted for the screen, where I suspect it will be much easier to follow.
With thanks to Nudge Books for providing a sample Audible copy.

Innovative and new age
A book that people like me can really relate to. I grew up in Hackney, I understood a lot of the lingo and new ppl like the antagonists. I love Astro physics and was intrigued in how it intertwined in the story. Though I felt there were plot holes, I was gripped and fell in love with the characters. At the very least it was a captivating story with a warm message and at best, it was a brilliant sci-fi adventure. Worth a read for sure!

An excellent story well told
The story is true to life. The narration brought the characters alive and I learned something about Einstein’s theory. Highly recommended.

Stays with you
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and was sooooo sad when it ended. A brilliantly engaging story - the two narrators were just superb and gave this story the voices that it deserves. I wasn’t expecting the musical moments and found them incredibly moving. Thank you, Femi, for such brilliance. This is going to stay with me for a very long time.
