Summary

On a cold and rainy night, Billy Jo McCabe receives a troubling phone call about a child in an abandoned house. But when she shows up alone, things quickly go sideways, and she realizes her mistake.

In her role as a social worker, Billy Jo rarely expects to walk into trouble, and the last thing she ever wants to do is call for backup from arrogant redheaded detective Mark Friessen, whom she’s beginning to depend on in the kinds of ways she shouldn’t. When she gets a call late one night about a child in trouble, Billy Jo doesn’t hesitate to drive out alone. However, she arrives to find the property abandoned, and with only one bar of battery on her phone and no cell service, she realizes far too late that she’s walked into a dark situation.

When Billy Jo doesn’t show up for work the next day, Detective Friessen is called in to find her. As he follows her trail and retraces her steps, he soon discovers her car abandoned in a field, and he has an uneasy feeling that her disappearance isn’t an accident. The more he searches, the more he fears that this is a trap - not for her, but for him.

Another thrilling book in this series.

This is another suspenseful and nail-biting story. Billy Jo is kidnapped and used as bait to trap Mark Friessen. I was kept on the edge of my seat for much of this story. There were parts of it that were eye-opening as I’m sure that Lorhainne Eckhart did the research needed to backup some of the awful injustices in the story that caused a grieving brother to go kind of nuts. This series really has me hooked. I’m not crazy about the narrator but I’ve listened to some that are much worse.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Thoughtprovoking

We are back with social worker Billy Jo McCade, detective Mark Friessen and the small NW island where nothing is as it seems and where the chief of police seems to keep secrets.
When Billy Jo is called in the middle of the night to assist a child, she ends up being kidnapped. But it appears she’s not the goal but a means to an end that involves Mark.
While the plot thickens and we discover the reason for the kidnapping, Mark’s involvement, and also how Mark and Billy Jo are being looked upon as a couple by the residents of the island, it’s the underlying story that is just as important.
That being the reality of the treatment of the Native Americans in the reservations, the lack of help, the looking the other way when injustices are committed, etc, are facts that are truly occurring in our society. A need for government to change its ways is imminent for these individuals to find justice, help, and a better future.
Another thought-provoking story by this very talented author.
I was given this book by StoryOrigin in return for an honest review.
