About this listen

Bloomsbury presents The Templars written and read by Dan Jones.

Dan Jones narrates in his inimitably vivid and authoritative fashion the remarkable story of the Knights Templar.

'Exhilarating, epic, sword-swinging history' TLS

'Jones is certainly an entertainer, but also a fine historian who knows how to render serious scholarship into accessible prose' The Times

'Another triumphant tale from a historian who writes as addictively as any page-turning novelist' Observer

‘When it comes to rip-roaring medieval narratives, Jones has few peers, and in the Templars he finds the perfect subject' Sunday Times

The Knights Templar were the wealthiest, most powerful – and most secretive – of the military orders that flourished in the crusading era.

Their story – encompassing as it does the greatest international conflict of the Middle Ages, a network of international finance, a swift rise in wealth and influence followed by a bloody and humiliating fall – has left a comet's tail of mystery that continues to fascinate and inspire historians, novelists and conspiracy theorists.

Gripping.

While it would usually take me two/three weeks to listen to an audible of this length. I have completed this book in a week.
Detailed enough to not wonder more about a person/event. Not too detailed that the book becomes boring. It divulges off subject the perfect amount to justify being important and relevant to the overall story.

My first Dan Jones history book. Will certainly not be my last.

A must read for any history buff.

throughout enjoyable listen

As someone that loved the idea if the templars but knew nothing of their history I found this audiobook to be fascinating.
I hope that Dan Jones makes smaller books detailing the accounts of the wars and any additional information about them.

Great

Chronological history isn't everyone's cup of tea but as a base entry to the template for those without much knowledge it's a great jumping off point.

In the name of Religion

I love history. I knew the Templar’s were thugs but didn’t realise how brutal they were and find it incredulous that it was done under the banner of Christianity for so long. I enjoyed the reading of Dan Jones. There was a lot of historical information and could only listen to short periods of time but did finish the book. Something I will probably go back to listen again to see what I missed the first time.

Restores Knight Templars work

The book catapults you into the world and legacy of the Knight Templars. From my perspective of view,
restores the reputation and work of the Knight Templars order with historical data and research.
